WTK: torque specs > 426 hemi w/alum intake/alum heads? - 11/17/12 03:36 PM

Have the intake off my 426 hemi and need to know the torque specs. OEM style alum heads and a newer inline 2x4 MP alum intake. I don't want to crack those beautiful heads! Anyone have an online source for this information?

The factory service manual calls for torqueing the inner four bolts to 72 inch lbs. and the outers to 48 inch pounds. I use that on both iron and aluminum heads, carb. intakes and blower manifolds with no problems in a lot of years working on Hemiroid motors I do retorque them sevearl times until they take a hard set, that's when they all stay tight and don't take anymore movement when retorquing Make sure and have flat washers under the head of the 1/4 inch bolts if your not using the original style or replacement intake bolts that have the captive washers on them

Mine have always come loose over time. 48 in/lbs. equates to 4 ft/lbs, and 72 in/lbs. is 6 ft./lbs. That is not much torque to keep them from coming loose.

Thanks, guys. Got it. I'll check and re-torque in a few days.

They do need to be checked and retorque regularly , esecially after warming up the motor when the gaskets and bolts are new

I torqued them about 14 times, everytime I went around they would get just a little bit more of a turn. Took about an hour....and that torque is plenty considering there is like 16-20 bolts. Tim
