Finally installed my cutout switch. - 11/02/12 03:37 AM

I finally decided where to put my cutout switch as since my battery is in the trunk I need to have one. I put it in the L/R taillite in the upper right corner. All I had to do was drill a hole in the taillite lens. I did not want to drill any holes in the car. So it worked great and since my battery box is on that side I bolted the switch to the battery box. Works good as its a push-pull and when you push it in it is flush with the lite bezel. Ron

Here you can see some of the switch on the battery box and the rod hooked to it. Actually you can only see the top of the switch as the solenoid you see behind the box is for the starter. Ron

I had not put it on yet when I took the pic. It says......Push off. I decided and put it on the bumper. Its black letters and stands out fine on the bumper. Ron

Hey Ron I avoided puttin the switch on my car for a long time too. Had no choice but to just do it . Mine stick out like a sore thumb.

on my real slow street strip(high to mid 10,s) car its kinda hard to see but on my not as slow car(low nines)car, i want to make sure nobody has a prob seein it.i like the tail light deal,mind if i copy it.

Looks great, Ron. I need to do something to make mine a little more subtle (big red handle on the bumper).

Your battery box is definately not NHRA legal. Don't know if the tech guy at your track will make much of a hassle out of it, but it could be an issue.

Thanks. A few years back the guy at the track told me it just had to be bolted down inside of the box as the box needs to be bolted to the floor and the battery had to be bolted to the box floor with a battery hold down setup. Rules may have changed as this was some years back. But if its legal just bolted to the floor in a battery hold down setup I would think this would be better then that as I see alot of batteries just bolted to the floors in race cars. But they have never said anything to me about it at my local tracks. Ron

Technically, the trunk floor is not a proper mount, there should be a bar or tabs off the frame rail for the bolts pass thru.

Also, the boat battery box is an acceptable cover (with 3/8" bolts to the frame for the battery itself) as long as there is a proper firewall between the trunk and the drivers compartment.

My question is, why is the battery on the left side of the trunk? Most cars have the battery on the right side to add a little extra weight to the passenger side of the car to help "pre-load" the right tire for more even traction. Is this a ladder bar car or leaf spring? If it is ladder bar, the pre-load can be set with the bars. On a leaf spring setup, I would think the left placement of the battery would tend to drive the car to the right on the launch.

My trunk mounted Battery is bolted through the far rear longitude frame rails on two parts. The four bolts holding down the battery boxed frame are long enough to exit through the bottom of the frame longitudes with big pressure washers and lock nuts securing them. The battery itself is then secured down with two vertical 3/8 thick Aluminum straps on each side of the battery with a cross over strap bolted on top. Every time the track tech Mafia looks, they want me to set up their cars for them.LOL. The way the battery is set up computes to them that the rest of the car is correct and no more questions are asked.

Looks good, Ron. You had the same idea I did. It's much easier to just get another taillight and slap it in than it is to fill a hole in the body.

Basically I did what it says as the battery tray is in the box bolted thru the box to the floor and the battery is bolted down with a battery hold down. I guess thats what I was trying to say before.

The actuall reason its on the left side is I got the battery cable free from a buddy as things were tight when I did it and it was not long enough to reach the right side. Really did not matter to me as its a street car and I really dont notice it on launch. I wanted to put it on the right side but this saved me money and I wanted the battery in some kind of box since I put many things in my trunk that I did not want any battery acid getting on. Actually my back its hurting bad this morning. I have good and bad days and the bad days I need a few more pain meds. Not what I like but it will get so bad sometimes I have no choice. Oh and thanks. Ron

Work thru the pain Ron.I do every day.Sometimes it hurts so bad I don't want to get out of bed but racing is all I live for so I deal with it.go getum Ron!
