The 500" stroked 400, usually shift 6200-6300 RPM. Have had it 7000-7100 on the chassis dyno, but power peaked around 6100?

Re: How high do you rev your motor - 10/21/12 08:21 AM

Well you asked for it. The 499" Hemi we shift at 9500 cross the stripe at about 9900-10200 depending on gear and DA.

The 525" B1 when on the odd occasion I run it all out I shift at 8300. It does not have enough gear or converter for running all out and I cross the stripe at a pedestrian 7450.

Re: How high do you rev your motor - 10/22/12 12:01 AM

Had my old 426 Hemi built to 1973 prostock spec, ran it to 9000 once and 8800 numerous times (Jones-Motorola mech. tach). Torque below 4500 was low. This was with heavy TRW pistons, Nascar rods, 4-speed, R290 and triple springs. Street use only, finally a rodbearing let go and took the Kellog crank journals 5 and 6....

Al what's the bore/stroke on that engine? i'm figuring stroke in the 3.5-3.6" range and bore 4.7ish?

as for the OP question, no faster than i have to. too fast in the burnout though (probably 7600-7700) leaving 3400, shifting 6800, crossing around 7-7200

440 w/ light pistons, good rods & forged crank... shifting 6300 and going thru 1/4-mile traps at 6800-7000. These #s might go up a couple of hundred RPM w/ new rebuild, so I've switched from OEM crank to an aftermarket 4340 piece.

434 inch Hemi, cross ram, NASCAR rods, TRW pistons...shift at 6800, traps about he same. Use a 7K chip. I see no point in running it harder.

Likewise but i go through the line at 6700, if i shift much higher than 6300, the power drops off.

417 peaked 8200.....probably shift mid 8s.....it's geared to cross around 9k.

Always takes some runs to figure it out.
