New Best at Sacto last weekend - 09/16/12 11:39 PM

Been working in Carson City, NV, since May, up from Las Vegas, been racing my 71 360 Demon over at Top Gun Raceway in Fallon NV. Have one win and one runner up in Super Pro there. With Fallon DA usually over 6500 ft, the idea of sea level in Sacramento look too good to pass up.

With a Bracket race on Saturday and Mopar race on Sunday...

Left Carson City at 5 am on Saturday morning, had a non eventual tow over the mountains on US 50 (Echo Summit 7382 ft to Sea Level) to Sacramento Raceway. Decided to take in the bracket race on Saturday and Mopar Magic on Sunday.

Friday I adjusted the valves since they had not been touched since April, and rejetted the carb back to stock jetting.

I was hoping the 360 Demon would run in the 10.80s in Sacto. The first pass was pretty good...got to the time booth...took care of the 80s...ran a 10.731 @ 120.66. Next pass ran a 10.72 @ 120.48....was thinking that the mph was down a couple of mphs...

60 ft 1.468
1/8 6.745 @ 101.30

anyway due to oil downs..and printer not working we were limited to 2 runs...not much chance for tuning on the car....

1st round on ladder in super pro...I drawn one of the all time NorCal hitter in a Austin Healey (Ted_Seipel) with numerous nhra national and divisional wins....I was thinking I drove too dam far to go out in the first round...Ted dialed in a 11.48...I dialed a 10.72.

with a .006 light and a 10.73 run ...Ted breaks out...

Round 2..with the air now warming up and no info on what the car will do at Sacto...I stay with the same dial in.....drawn a super comp dragster my .016 light and 10.77 on the 10.72 dial is history....

DA went from 1775 to 2500 ...

Sunday...Sunday....LOL

Have to remove delay box to run Pro....having cut wires and rewire transbrake and two step...does not go as easy as I thought...one bad solider less crimp...and i wasted two passed down the track ...brake not work on one..and two step not work on next pass...find the bad connector....one i just did that morning...GEE...what was the last thing i worked on........still ran a 10.96 and 10.84 at 119+...

We had upped the jets before those passes and it slowed down...decided to go the other way and lean car out a tab from stock jetting....next run with everything working including driver....10.73 @ 119....still no increase in mph...what the hell it is a bracket race...needed to come out to a TnT to get some info but...

1st round in Pro...bad light kind of sealed the deal....but I will be back in Carson City Sunday night in time to go to work as we are out of there by 2:30 pm.....

Love the tow back up US 50...old 94 Dodge just rumbles...a/c blowing cold and music playing..Echo Summit here I come..

Had a good time...now need to figure out the mph thing...but car is going back to Vegas next weekend.

Congrats on your new best but bummer you went thru all that work, they were letting box racers zero out there box and taping them up. That is the way they roll there, that is why I brought my footbrake car and left the Chally at home.

Congrats on the new best!! We've thought about makin' the haul to Fallon from Fresno, as well as some freinds from Boise. Seems it's a good halfway point to meet up and do some racin'. Sac was fun, went out third round but bought back in to the jackpot and got lucky...

I asked the tech about the zeroing out the box and he said he did not care..but the racer probably would. I told him i would remove it. Like I said..I was only really there to see what the car would run at sea level...

I will be returning home to Las Vegas in a couple of weeks as the project up here in Carson City is wrapping up.

Three tenths is pretty typical from Vegas to Sacto. When have run a best with the big tire car in Vegas of 8.29 and at Sac have been 8.04. Small tire car has been 8.38 here and we have yet to run it in sea level type air.

It is not just as simple as comparing similar DA's when elevation is taken into account. The ACTUAL Barometer readings are much lower at elevation than sea level, that is the single largest factor. That has a big affect on getting a car to run well at elevation. Hard to explain to people who have not run at altitude but 3500' here in Vegas is not as fast as 3500' at a track like Sonoma, or others at sea level or close to it. FWIW our actual barometer readings here are typically in the high 27's, last weekend I saw 27.8ish all weekend. I travel a good deal at altitude tracks and they can certainly take the wind out of your sails.

my TAG showed baro in Sacto at 29.58

As you said...the Baro in Vegas is usually in the mid 27s to low 28s..
