Custom Window Net.. where from? - 08/13/12 06:17 PM

This one pizzes me off a little as my non-rated custom sized window net is in perfect condition.. but to be "legal"

Where do you recommend getting a custom made SFI rated window made??

I have a trapezoid which measures

14.75 left side
15.75 top
22.25 right side
21.5 bottom

summit now offers custom rjs nets for 42.99, online you have to call them and give measurements and then rjs calls you when they get the order and confirms the measurements and mount position.
It does show about a month out but it came in under 2 weeks for me!
quality net measurements right on.
and I should clarify it is a 27.1 cert

Ribbon nets don't need to be re-certified..

Not sure what you have..

Thanks for everyones suggestions..

I need some clarification here.. I read some information where it didnt matter if the net was ribbon or not... that the new NHRA rules said it needed to be SFI rated!!!

Is that correct or not? (btw, I do have a ribbon net)

Re: Custom Window Net.. where from? - 08/14/12 04:48 PM

mine HAVE been checked at all the divisional races this year. Was told after April they needed to be done and that was in Phoenix. In the beginning of the year the rulebook stated they needed to be SFI certified and I had both done as we raced in Febuary, so I got them done. In Phoenix I asked Lonnie and he said they pushed it back to April. Have not asked since then but it has been checked at all the races I have attended since. Both of mine are ribbon

The ribbon style does NOT need to be re-certed..
I took a template into RJS(local to me) and they
made it up and I picked it up the next day... I'm
going with a different shape and will go back there

I didnt know of this change.... good to know
EDIT
How many years on a ribbon before it needs re-cert....
more money again out of the pocket

Thats what I made reference to in my first post.. I have a ribbon net and its in almost brand new condition... but based on the information I have, NHRA has now determined my net is unsafe because it doesnt have the cloth sticker on it..

Anyways.. its good to know and I'll be making a call to Strouds (or Summit)...

RJS made mine for my Challenger. I made a card board template & sent it to them. Fit perfectly when I got it back. Its was only $45.00 too.

Talking window nets, NHRA does not specify how much forward the net should go. IHRA does by stating the net should come within 2 inches of the rearmost portion of the steering wheel.

Window Net Rules - 08/14/12 07:06 PM

Guys, you need to go back and read the most recent rule changes. Changes that took effect on May 29 changed the ribbon rule back to not being required for recert. Most ET, Stock, SST, SG, and probably others.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could have all that finalized BEFORE we start racing

So the current rule is the same as it was a few years
ago... where it is NOT required to be re-certed on
the ribbon style net

Re: Window Net Rules - 08/17/12 04:36 PM

This is out of the NHRA rule book changes in May

An SFI 27.1 ribbon-type or mesh-type window net is mandatory on any full-bodied car running 7.49 (*4.49) or quicker. For full-bodied cars running 7.50 (*4.50) to 9.99 (*6.39) or if vehicle runs 135 mph or faster a ribbon-type or SFI 27.1 mesh-type window net is mandatory unless otherwise specified by class requirements. SFI 27.1 window net, when required, must be updated at two-year intervals from the date of manufacture.
