went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/02/12 01:59 PM

best the 408 could do was a 10.65@127.6 in 83* weather. 60 was 1.53. just could'nt get the car to 60 any better with shock adjustments.
first pass was 10.66@126.9-1.52 60. went down 2 on the jetting and went 10.69@126.5-1.54 60. went up 1 and went 10.73@126.6-1.59 60 spun. timing went from 32* to 36* and went 10.65@127.6-1.53 60. went up two more on jetting and ran 10.66@127.6. jet changes made little differences and timing got 1 more mph. car went straight so i did'nt touch the cal-trac adjustment. 60'ed better on ss springs with a 1.49 best.

For caltracs you need atleast 4 in. of front travel looks like you have about two. Lower front and realign to give it more travel.

i measured 6" on front end travel. tubular control arms with hyme joints and calvert 90/10's. stiffening rear shocks a click at a time had no real effect.

You might need to soften the rear shocks for more
extension to plant the tires harder... bad tracks..
softer... good tracks ... stiffer

mid michigan had the track preped good for the $50,000 super pro challenge which starts today. i started on 4 and 5 and went to 8 and 9 one click at a time without much difference. best 60 was on 4 and 5(4 drivers and 5 pass.).
i'm now thinking the 50/50 mix of 93 shell and vp110 killed it. i'm not convinced it needed any race fuel with 11.3:1 and .036 quench. no evidence on plugs. the smaller tire (27") probably did'nt help much either.

I dont know how you are mesuring your front end travel, and I am not saying that you are wrong but I looked at your vidio 10 times with soemone else also looking on and it sure looks like it only moves a couple of inches.

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/03/12 04:15 AM

well maybe i'm not measuring correctly. at static ride height i measure between the bottom of oil pan and ground, then i jack front up til one tire or both leave the ground and take another measure between pan and ground. i take first measure and subtract from second measure and that figure is my total travel.

Just measure from the fender lip right above the tire
centerline with you in the seat then jack it up and
soon as the tire will start to turn measure it again
at the same point

The reason you measure at the tire centerline is that
anything in front of it will have a ratio(if you
were to measure it at the front bumper it travel
farther before the tire comes off the ground)to
give you a larger number... thats why you need to
do it on the tire C/L(splindle C/L)

remeasured. 5" travel with me in it. dont know why it looks like it only has 2" at launch. i know this last time out didnt have enough power to pull the wheels. still think i over octaned it.

My car is 12.7.1 and i run 50-50 pump 97 and 112 race fuel, my old motor was same comp as yours and i used the pump 97 only with .039 quench.

Still gonna matter what cam is in it.... check the
cranking pressure

I`m really happy w/VP-100 unleaded gas.........you should try some cos mixing sucks and pump gas can vary too much in my opinion. How many passes on your tires and yes, I`d get at least get a 28" tire under there if you can.

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 05:00 AM

cranking pressure was 185#/cyl avg. not sure what octane i need but vp110 and shell 93 was clearly too much. tires are brand new. i will have to do some body work to get a 28" tire on there without rubbing. never rubbed with the ss springs but a 28" tire does with the cal-tracs.
at this point i would be better off putting the ss springs and the 28" tires back on and sell the cal-tracs,i 60 ed better.

At 185 you can run premium by it self but you want
to make sure its good quality and not all over the
place on octane.... I know when I went from 112 to
110 I picked up with no other changes

If that one was a END cyl I wouldnt worry much BUT I
would try to keep the engine cooler with a lower stat

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 02:00 PM

My aluminum headed 340 was 11.2-1 with .039" quench and ran on pump 93. I tried 110 race gas in it one time and it slowed down.

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 02:45 PM

yep. i had a 50/50 mix and no matter what i did with jetting lean or rich it made very little change. it did like more timing thou and if i would of had more time i would have put more in it. i had this happen one other time with same results,so again if it does'nt need race gas don't put it in unless you like going slow. i wasted $75 on that can of vp. lesson learned for sure this time. i also contacted moneymaker racing(where i bought my cal-tracs) and they don't like that track when the weathers hot, they can't hook there,so maybe that was my other issue. alittle dissapointed, but i'll try again at milan.

Where do you have the bars, top or bottom hole? Preload?
Posted By: mopar dave

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 03:42 PM

set up is just as moneymaker suggested. bottom hole one flat drivers and two flats pass.

Again, how many passes on your tires?

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 06:11 PM

right now i have 6 passes on new tires.

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 06:30 PM

You`re good there. Car leaves and runs ok from what I could see in the video and it looks like you have about 4-5"`s of ft. travel..........

Re: went to mid michigan yesterday - 08/04/12 07:03 PM

the fuel was my biggest enemy on that day and i kept clicking the shocks stiffer thinking the track had to be good because they kept prepping it. maybe i should have went softer because my best 60 was right off the trailer with 4-5 clicks.
