M/T ET Street Radials? - 07/22/12 05:21 PM

I've got a dumb question. I've got a new set of P315/60R-15's what air pressure is everyone running on the street with these things? Dave

I run about 25 psi on the street, then lower them down to 15-ish at the track

I run 15 but think I'm gonna try a little higher next time.

Re: M/T ET Street Radials? - 07/23/12 02:28 AM

Well I tryed 26#'s, stopped out on my semi-private test track. I dropped it in low, nailed it, shifted to 2nd and had to get out of it or I'd have waded it up in the ditch. I'll try 18lbs. next go around, the tires still seem like they're too hard yet. It probably won't make much difference, this truck motor just makes a pile of tire shreading torque. Dave

On a bad track the bias plys M/T ET Streets work better than the raidals do ( I use the same aize on my Duster, not as much power as yours )On a good trak the radials are faster by up to or more than 1/10 second in the 1/4 mile Put some big tires on it Dave

Re: M/T ET Street Radials? - 07/23/12 10:58 AM

Hey Cab!, These are my street tires only. I've got a set of M/T 14-32.5 radial drag slicks for the track.
At 26 lbs. of air the ride on the ET Streets is very harsh. I'll keep dropping the air pressure and see what happens. Dave

Dave what size rims are you running with the ET Streets? That brand/size is what I am looking at for the Junkyard truck.

Radials at 15?? they don't "cup" I was told not to go under 18 w/ the radials. I even tried 16 once and they didn't hook at all. I've had both ethe MT radials and the Hoosiers ran both at 30 on the street and 18-19 at the track.

My ET Radials never hook on the street. And they don't hook at the track without a healthy burnout first. Many folks indicate that very little burnout is needed, but I have found the burnout to be critical to their hook.

Fry them first and then try your launch test. You should see a noticeable difference.

Larry; I'm running them on 10" rims. I e-mailed M/T this morning, they shot me back an e-mail. Their recs are 32psi on the street for this size tire.Dave

I forgot to mention mine have worked well on good tracks at 22 to 18 lbs of pressure on MY GAUGE Once they( the radails) start to spn they will not recover like the bias plys do I have to let off to let them grab and then try again, I do let off and shift it in first gear, that will work most of the time I have had them break loose in high gear on the street when I've got a wild a-- urge to floor it over 45 MPH, my converter flashes to 5500 or so

If you keep changing the tire pressure from street to track, you are changing how the tire loads from outside edges to the middle. I pick a pressure after some track testing and leave it.

So how many passes do you get out of a set of tires when you fry them each pass? I am curious how well/long they last for street and track driving when ran that hard each burnout.
thanks

mickey thompson says 14psi no burn out

Re: M/T ET Street Radials? - 07/24/12 02:50 AM

I usually get between 2-1/2 to 3 years out of them, racing about a dozen times a season with a ton of street driving. I'm right on the edge of hooking with that small a tire with an 8" converter, so that's why I assume I need to fry them. If I could run a 295 or so I doubt much burnout would be needed. However I'm screwed by the lack of room under an early A-body.

If the others dont have your weight on the back end
the most they can say is what they run and at most
it MIGHT be close.... weight is the MAJOR factor
on that or any size tire to pressure to get the
best foot print

Re: M/T ET Street Radials? - 07/25/12 03:57 PM

I run 20 psi at the track and on the street. 295-65 M/T
I hope you're not expecting them to hook on the street.

I agree 100%. I went from 22 at the track the first time out and dropped them to 18. 325x15x50's on 10" prostars. Never looked back. On the flip side, when I was on the street, I had them at 28 but only for cruzin...
