Step by step 4150 to 4500 "598" W8 intake w/full port

Step by step 4150 to 4500 "598" W8 intake w/full port - 07/12/12 03:08 AM

I will try to update as I go on this intake over the next few weeks to show what goes into full port as cast "598" plus convert to 4500 top.
Top will start out by plugging 4150 holes and drill/tap new 4500 holes next will be some love in the Mill.

The intake runners in the "598" start out small about 1.250" by 1.950" will be about 1.395" by 2.235" when done.

This is what I did... but this was the FIRST one
that was cast up and they were throwing it out...
the plenum needed a LOT of work

Other than the 4150 to 4500 conversion, is this a lot more material taken out than like what Wilson did to the 598 intakes that Stanton used on their circle track engines? Or is this just a different plenum/runner design altogether for drag racing?

Will be over 1sq" bigger CS than most of the truck stuff as they are 3.5sq" taper to 2.7sq" this will be about 4.5sq" and taper to 3sq".

What CI and what RPM do you want to run?
Is this a mopar intake or knock off? If its knock off the runners have some bad core shift and they take a good bit of runner grinding.

What size is port opening in your heads I think the small truck port would be hard to get this intake to fit nice with out epoxy or better yet weld.(My program for w8-w9 is 2.250 by 1.407) most truck stuff is 2.180 by 1.380.

This is good "420" I am sure much better out in the world but this is good starting point for 800HP to 940HP

The heads for this intake.
This is my largest W9 intake port program.
The head and intake was to go on 440CISBM at this point dont know what they are going to go on customer had change in plans I hope they make it onto something
At the intake flange it is 1.405" by 2.250 and should support 900HP with this intake.

Very nice work! I would like to see EGT's after for distribution purposes...the center runner dividers are cast 'wrong' but leave material to correct this issue. Most people leave distribution disparity alone but, it's worth a fix. The 'undercut' at the divider bottom helps but you'll never know without EGT's. Again very nice work just trying to help.

Thanks Sean  I would love to see the egt's for this.
This is only 3rd "598" I have done a whole port job on start to finish most are just updated from 4150 to 4500 plus open up ports.
Do you have any pictures you would share of divider area?
Have you done any back to back 420 vs 598?

This should be darn good 598 intake it surprised me that I could get 4.5" cross section in the plenum with out to much weld on out side of intake.( only one small hole)

Brett, we need to go in on a cnc machine. I'm in the middle of doing 3 Indy 4500 conversions and just plain sick of porting. That's all I do anymore it seems.
By the way, nice work. Intake manifolds SUCK to port!!
Hope your boy is doing good. Our second boy will be here first of Oct.

I havent put mine on the engine yet but I'm set up
for EGTs to get the balance right.... I sorta set that
on the back burner for now... but at least that style
of manifold is easy to pull off the engine and make
changes then bolt back on..... nice job

I use 2 flute cutters on alum and tootsie roll sanders
to finish it.... 4 flute on iron
EDIT
I have about 8, 6" long assorted cutters and 1, 12" long
and 1/2 dozen 6" long sanding arbors for the tootsie rolls
