which wideband for open headers - 06/27/12 02:44 AM

I want to add a wideband to my ride, Its open headers and heard they'r a little harder to work with on open headers. Which one do you suggest?

All of them ,, just move the wide band around to every hole and see how you are doing . wide band bungs and plugs are cheap .

If you mean a gauge, i use the AEM UEGO, i run open headers with collectors.

If you're monitoring in the collector, make sure the sensor is at least 12inches from the end. This usually means collector extensions. If the sensors are too close to the end they won't read correct until full load, full throttle even then I wouldn't be too sure.

Just looking at your headers I would say you can use
longer collectors anyways... most engines like a
collector about 16"-18" long... it'll make more torque

As stated any of the will be fine. They will onlybe accurate at full throtle but since it is a racecar tat is all that matters.

I've been looking too, my street/strip 408 needs to be fine tuned. It gets confusing to me after reading several posts. It seems what works for one don't work for other people. I want something that will record so I can look at it later and not have to worry about running over something trying to watch it .

Suggestions? Sorry for the hi jack .

If i were building a set of headers, they would have 10 O2 sensor bungs along with 8 egt bungs. Do it right the 1st time.

Do these bungs need to be spaced spacifically?
Anyone have pics?

Ideally they should go in at the 12 O'clock position. With underbody headers there's usually enough room to fit at the 10 and 2 O'clock positions. The instructions will tell you to fit the sensors pointing down as much as possible to stop water/condensation forming in the sensors as it contaminates them.
Also remember that everytime you switch the car on, the sensors will heat up. So don't leave the little plastic protectors on them when you switch the car on, they will melt. Don't ask me how I know

I use 8 EGT to balance the intake.. and the O2s in
the collector... if you get the EGTs balanced you
wont need the 8 O2s... JMO... plus most headers are
hard to get the big O2 bungs in there.... all of my
EGTs are always exactly 1"(I use a set of calipers to
set the probe distance) from the header flange... that
way your trying to get equal reading

i use a wego3. it has a live readout and is the size of a credit card.
will record from .1sec to i think 2sec. 800 samples do the math
logs rpm and o2 and a third 0 to 5vdc input. small simple works.

You could video it with one of those cheap, action camera things from ebay, they seem to work OK. Once you've got a handle on the ratio's you can use it for other fun stuff too
