Chapper, Usually in a foot brake class that means that they unhook your trans brake ( if you have one ), and if they catch you using the trans brake, they disqualify you. And the race at MCIR is a quarter mile.

I have a trans brake in my transmision,,,it is not wired up to any button, etc. My MAIN concern was, I don't use a trans brake and I don't like racing against people that DO use a trans brake in the "no electronics" class. I footbrake and do the shifting of the trans myself and no 2-step/RPM controlled stuff....I'm OLD SCHOOL!!
With all the adjustable switches/buttons for the trans-brake, it is just about the same as running a delay box when combined with a 2 step/etc. Just sort of weighing out my chances at this race... I have proven it to myself and everybody else,,I can be just as late with my thumb, as I can be with my feet!! Just want everybody else to be playing the same game. I know that is only wishful thinking, but if that is the way the race is set up, I would possibly make the trip there, even though I do prefer 1/8 mile racing...1/4 mile racing scares this old man anymore,,TOO fast!!

In the Pro class, I see "footbrake". Does this mean NO trans brakes??

Chapper, Usually in a foot brake class that means that they unhook your trans brake ( if you have one ), and if they catch you using the trans brake, they disqualify you. And the race at MCIR is a quarter mile.

What's the answer/verdict, Jeff?? Trans brakes or No trans brakes??

NO trans brake in Pro!
We're also on Facebook now; Chrysler Power Classic.
Thanks!

OK guys, I answered that last one a little too quickly. I've been traveling with Goodguys to Denver, MASS, and I'm getting ready to leave for Iowa, so my mind has been elsewhere. I talked to Doug and went back to the old rules to see how we did it in the past. So here it is:

PRO E.T.
All-run event with no E.T. break, double entries ok, buy backs first round, all races ¼ mile. No center steer vehicles, no delay boxes, air/electric shifters permitted, bye runs determined at random by the tower (not us), unused bye runs will not carry over, electronic or other devices may in no way affect throttle operation, TRANSBRAKES PERMITTED, FOOTBRAKE RUN SEPARATE FROM TRANSBRAKE FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. Must be Chrysler powered.

Obviously, we all have our own opinion of how drag races should be run. These are, in my opinion, universally accepted rules. I also believe you should NEVER cut the purse. We'll pay 16 cars in Pro, whether we have 2 or 200 cars. I hope you guys come out and have some fun with us.

Jeff, I really hate to say it , but the Warren and Augenstein Hemi 67 Belvedere has a ventilated block and will not be at your July show. We will be there selling parts in the swap meet for the purchase of a new block. Does anyone out there have a Mopar Performance HEMI block for sale. PM me if you do. Thanks, Warren and Augenstein P.S. I heard a rumor that the racers were running for not only trophies and $$$$, but also "Ring Pops".

Patience, my friend. Nobody wants this to work more than me. In fact, I've been trying for over 10 years, after Richard O'Malley retired the KOS. I've tried to put together programs with Andy Mayes, Leon Hudson, Dan Dye, Bondo Bob and now the Chopins. All of the events have been met with limited success. It's not just me. Sieveking, Rockingham and others have also had less than stellar participation. That said, we are all in the same boat with vacation time, fuel costs, family obligations and repairs on the race cars. These issues are unaffected by a huge purse. Post high, no one shows, the purse gets cut; bad deal all around.

Anyway, yes, there will be a cash payout. It will grow based on participation. I'm waiting on a few things, which will be in place by Monday. I'll have all the details here next week, as well as on my website (www.jeffjohnsonmotorsports.com)and on facebook (Chrysler Power Classic.)

Jeff has supported this program for many years and has stuck with it even with the 5-10 car count over the past years. Its a tough deal when you spend a lot of time on this and cars do not show. The names that Jeff drops in his post are not only racers but big fans of this style of racing that have spent time and their own money at trying to make this thing go over the years. We spent some time last year trying to get a good purse together for you guys and the lack of car count hurt. But the purse was still paid out in full as always with Jeffs Events.

Thank you for your support over the years Jeff and Doug

Here's the deal. We have no sponsorship interest for the 10.5 class. However; I'm offering free entry for car and driver. Crew is $25 each. I'll post $100 per every legitimate 10.5 racer that shows up for the first round. Winner take all. Four cars minimum.

If eight cars show up I'll post $125 per car.

So, let's review. Eight cars = $1000 cash to the winner plus a $100 Jeg's gift certificate. Four cars = $400 cash to the winner plus a $100 Jeg's gift certificate. Three cars or less = trophy only. Winner and runner up trophies will be awarded regardless of car count. Don't forget the FREE Saturday night hog roast. No excuses. You've built some killer cars. Now let's race.

I'm just asking a question...so people don't blow a nut...Why would you pay out more money for a BRKT Racer...Than a person willing to put on a show,go faster on a true 10'5 tire than all these other 10,000 brkt classes that ur haveing?...i mean common ya got a.afbcdesthy class and then another..lokfgoted class..and so on and so on...I guarantee ya...when you call out a heads up class the fence gets filled with people...Why?...Cause its just like watching a NASCAR Event...people watch for the wrecks...but yet you don't want to pay out any money for the true 10'5 tire guys...lets do this charge every person $10.00 to grab a spot on the fence when the heads up racers are called out...u sure in the heck won't seem them at the fence for the brkt racers!!!...Does this post mean that i'm not getting my jack daniels if i show up next weekend?.... ,

Hey Jeff, Everybody runs those 10.5 tires, but what if there was a "True 9" tire class--heads up. We're talking stocker suspensions with a run what ya brung motor. Tree would have staging lights, 1 green bulb and a foul light. Score board would tell who won, only. Time slips would give you your time and speed only for your car only. No room for the whiners. Racing would be wild and the people would camp at the fence line , like back in the 60's. Put my name in the hat for that style racing.

Who's in?

I'm just asking a question...so people don't blow a nut...Why would you pay out more money for a BRKT Racer...Than a person willing to put on a show,go faster on a true 10'5 tire than all these other 10,000 brkt classes that ur haveing?...i mean common ya got a.afbcdesthy class and then another..lokfgoted class..and so on and so on...I guarantee ya...when you call out a heads up class the fence gets filled with people...Why?...Cause its just like watching a NASCAR Event...people watch for the wrecks...but yet you don't want to pay out any money for the true 10'5 tire guys...lets do this charge every person $10.00 to grab a spot on the fence when the heads up racers are called out...u sure in the heck won't seem them at the fence for the brkt racers!!!...Does this post mean that i'm not getting my jack daniels if i show up next weekend?.... ,

No worries. That's what this forum is about; respectful dialogue. Here's my take.

Since Paul Suloff and I started the Max Wedge Shootout in 1994, the NSS racers have shown us nothing but support and have been rewarded for their loyalty. If you look closely, a similar offer is being made to 10.5 racers. 4 cars = $400.00, 8 cars = $1000.00, 16 cars = $2000.00, and so on. You guys just gotta show up.

When we started our Nostalgia Pro Stock program, guys got paid nothing and began coming out of the woodwork. Don't tell me those cars are cheap. Go price a Lenco and learn how to tune a clutch and dual Dominators. We now have 32 active participants and they each get paid a minimum of $250.00 just to show up.

Bottom line; put on a good showing at MCIR and I'll double the payout for Tri-State, August 25-26. BTW that's money out of my own pocket. Bring us a sponsor or two and the purse will only increase.

Is that all it takes to ruffle the BIRDS feathers. I have always been good to you Ed. Who helped you with your wiring problem at Norwalk and tracked down NOS at Indy for you. But Jim is a good guy and he sure is not going to bring Adams car to the track for him. Was not cracking on you in any way. But if you took it that way I really do not care. It was you that came to me to split the purse at Marion. I have already told you that Scott's car has been 5.50's on radials and we could not beat you. By the way that nice lady that served you food last year was my mother who was out there being good to you in the 100 degree heat. It is no wonder that Jeff cannot get anyone to sponsor the 10.5 class.

Lonnie's got a bigger ego than Mike though...

Yeah I was told by a little birdy his ego was pretty big. I have not had thepleasure of meeting Lonnie yet but I will in Aug.....

It's all good just having some fun stirring the pot here because I can not do it at the track due to work and distance.

Brad Chopin 10.5 Pro Street winner. 440, 727, 8-3/4. It's got more of a Mopar drivetrain than most Mopars. Plus, the entire Chopin clan was there with their fleet of Mopes.

A Mopar motor belongs in a Dodge or Plymouth car, a chevy in a chevy and a ford in a ford IE No half breads plan and simple!

Re: MCIR CLASSIC, July 28-29, - 08/01/12 02:27 AM

I guess some of you won't be coming to Jeff's events if thats the case. He lets anything run as long as its Mopar Powered. There was another ford racing there also. Yes it is Mopar Powered. Dana 60 not an 8 3/4.

Those dodge trucks we all use to pull our trailers the ones with cummins thats not mopar power. Chrysler used mitsubishi power plants so whats the diff. alot of vehicles are cross bred from the factory. Ford should have used mopar power plants or did they? MOTHUNDER 5??,727,DANA 60 all mopar drive line!

How come nobody complains when they see a mopar with a ford rearend or a mopar with a GM Tranny, and some of you mopar guys run chivy hood scoops....i'm sure the ford boys hate it worse when they find out that a mopar motor put their #ss on the trailor....

Hemi powered 40 Willys---440 mopar Wedge in and Anglia Pie Wagon and how about James Brown's 440 powered Maverick, painted Mopar Performance colors?-----------All half breeds. These cars were called Gassers back in the 60's and 70's. The way some of these Mopar racers are getting, there will be classes for red Dusters and classes for Yellow Dusters.

NSS/Guy -- Trailer was loaded for an early Sat. morning trip to MCIR, and still is. We had a family emergency and got home from the doctors at 2pm. Our 3 racers are down. One has a ventilated block and the motor is at Tony Depello's, Hemi Cuda has a valve problem, and the aluminum 63 Dodge Max Wedge is in the show room to be sold. . Add to the purse? I read here on MOparts that I was going to supply the winners with a "Ring Pop Sucker". I guess it was a play on the other race and running for the ring. HAHA. If any of the winners would like to collect their ring pops, PM me and I will send them out.I am truely sorry for missing this event and I will not be at the August event that Jeff Johnson will be putting on either. On that same weekend for over 60 years, our family has had a family reunion at my log cabin , and as we all know, family before everything else.

Thank you Jeff for the great picture of my Cuda with the valve problems. Tony Depello has the motor out of the 67 Belv, or whats left of it, at his shop, and just today we made the decision to sell the repairable .030 over hemi block and buy a new race block for the car. If anyone out there needs a Hemi Block for their restoration project we have a 4-6-64 build date on it . I would say that it is one of the first ones built, and could be worth some money. PM me if you need that block. Hemi Joe has first dibs on it though.

This is to Jeff or anyone in the know.

I just heard a vicious rumor that there will be no more Nostalgia Pro Stock. Also if this rumor is faulse how secure is the class? I know it is a trophy class and exibition class but building to that class causes issues to build the car more modern.

Kind of need to know if this is true. I am starting the chassis and engine phase of my build and if this class goes the way of the do-do, I am changing my build.

Re: MCIR CLASSIC, July 28-29, - 08/04/12 05:23 PM

Jeff,

Can you answer this please. You have been pretty good about promoting what is going on and making sure everyone knows what is happening. I get this is not the best news in the world but this cancelling of the race the end of Aug really effects my plans, work schedule and other things. I am sure it effects many others that would like to know also.

I need to know if I am to start changing my flight itinerary. I extended my trip over 2 months ago to make this race. If it is a no go, I need to know so I can get back to work a few days early.

I really need to know this ASAP....

What races were cancelled?! Stupidity such as this makes me want to not get on the internet. I told one person about one race getting cancelled because the host track was having financial difficulty. I'm not going to say anything about that event on this forum until I have more info. If you are a member of the NNPSA you'll get an email this week with details. www.nostalgiaprostock.com

Ok first I want to apologize to Jeff. I jumped the gun on things and I should not have. I was wrong. I have already apologized to him in an e-mail and I am doing it here. I should have waited and been patient. That was my fault. I have other issues going on concerning the car and then I heard this, kind of last straw stuff. I should have known that rumors get around the world before the truth gets it's shoes on.

Again I jumped the gun.

So publically I will say this. Until I hear differently I will continue my new prject in the way I was and I am 90% sure I will be at Tri-State when I am home to show my support.
