I wouldn't imagine that there is a hell of alot of them out there anymore, but from a reliability stand point I would look at an old Craftsman Truck head. They will have more meat in them than say something off a Pro Stock Truck engine. Ideally you don't want something used up or that has had to be repaired. I had a complete CFE w8 top end that I wish I never sold! Be prepared to put your hand in your wallet, nothing for them is cheap! A W9 head could be another option for you.

A raw Zeus casting (without spark plug hole) is a good foundation for the CFE treatment......

Just like the ones I have under my bed.

Mid nines is nothing for W7 W8 W9 or the old Arrignton heads.

Just make sure you get something meant to run on 48 degree blocks. There are some W9 heads that are built for 59 degree lifters and I would not advise spending money going that route. Mid 9's are obtainable with Indy heads.

I highly recommend CFE W8 stuff for anyone wanting to go fast the truck stuff is just not in the same game. But, if mid 9's is all you want I would save a considerable amount of money and go with old truck stuff.

The heads are raw. Call Foltz (CFE), tell them your plans for the engine (N/A, nitrous, etc.) and they'll fill you in.

I would consider a R5/P7 , easily goes mid nines and probably cost less
than a pair of CFE heads

Adapters are available to make it a fairly easy swap

I thought I read somewhere that the only difference between W8 and w9s are that the W9s are lighter? If this is not true then what is the difference?

The Port shape/cross section and the valve sizes. The CFE stuff will typically run a 1.5-1.55" exhaust valve with a 2.18-2.25" intake valve. They will generally run a 5/16" or smaller valve stem also. The port will have a min cross section up around 3" and flow north of 400 cfm depending on the engine they were designed around.
The truck stuff runs a 2.18"/1.6" or so sized valve with a 11/32" stem valve.

The valve angle is the other change, I think the cup stuff is 15 degrees, the Pro Stock Truck was around 13 degrees, the Comp Stuff could be anywhere from 15 to 9-10 degrees.

Someone please correct me if I am mistaken, I am relying on my horrible memory here.
