Holley Ultra 950 hp jetting - 06/04/12 04:31 PM

Ok guys i need help on this one. I just put a new motor in my car and am having problems getting jetting correct. The motor is a 440 with stock crank and rods. Trw slugs. I'm running a victor intake and 915 heads with very little port work done. We built the motor as a quench motor and ended up with .040 quench. it has a 590 purple shaft with harland 1.6 rockers so were looking at .629 or so lift. It also has a 1" 4 hole spacer under the carb. Problem is we bolted carb on out of the box. It had 92 jets in it which we figured were going to be to big but we tried it. After about 10 jet changes we ended up at 96 jets. Now we know this is way to much jet for the car but that is what it took to get some color on the plug and the fastest times out of the car. We are thinking we need to change the air bleeds to smaller ones but we have no experience with one of these carbs. If anyone has an idea of where I should start as far as air bleeds and jets I'm all ears. The car was very consistant with the 96 jets but we know that it shouldnt take that much jet to make this motor run.

Does it have a PV.... dont pay too much attention to
the jet number... if the engine wants the fuel, give
it the fuel... but if it has a PV that could be wrong

That carb should work just fine right out of the box. If you're using unleaded gas then you probably won't see any color on the plugs. Get a wide band setup if you really want to know what is going on.

The carb has 6.5 power valves in it. We are running sunoco race fuel so I thought we would see some color. We have discussed wideband O2 just not sure if I want to spend the money yet.

A 6.5 PV with a .590 cam?

Can't say I've ever worked with the vaunted .590 but I'd think you would want to block the secondary PV and try a 3.5 in the front
But that's just me licking my finger and sticking it in the air for a garage tune

What are your vacuume readings @ idle
