best way to slow a car down other than throttle stop - 04/07/12 10:20 PM

NHRA license has expired and don't want to spend all the money and time to renew it for as little as I go racing
just asking in case they tell me to slow it down

How much do you need to slow down? Easy way is a mechanical throttle limiter, like a bolt under the pedal or on carb to limit the opening.

Have you seen those restrictor plates that you can slide in and out? Takes like 5 minutes to change them.

Short shift at 3000 RPM.

Drop the shift points. Sounds like the perfect car for 10.0 index.

You could add more weight to the trunk/rear of the car.

I use a mech throttle stop on the car and fine tune
it with the launch and shift rpm... works great...
this is the stop I made to fit my 1050 dom

If you use a throttle cable this is a simple and easy way to slow your car down by not having the carb open all the way.You still floor the gas pedal but the carb only opens part way. You adjust it by changing the the location of the throttle position holes in the little spacer. I used a little piece of aluminum and drilled some holes to make the spacer....more holes the slower the car.Good luck

Years ago we reaced a duster with a 440 braaket motor with a M.W. top end on it with both carbs, it was about four tenths under the index to start with. We found that by shifting it higher(7000 RPM instead of 6400 RPM into both second and third instead of lower we could slow it down a tenth. If we shifted it at 5000, 5500 or 6000 RPM it would slow down maybe .030 to .050, not a ful tenth. this was before delay boxes and electronic throttle stops, a long,(1984) long time ago Adding weight is probally the better way, put it in the middle of the car between the axles
