The Stoneage Mopar........ Sorry kind of long... - 01/07/12 11:12 PM

Ladies and Gentalmen,

I have been to most,if not all the Mopar forms within the Internet pool of Blah,Blah Blah. All seem to have the one thing in common "MOPAR".

As a Mopar inthusist, racer, lover of all Mopar, I question myself and you to see if we are stuck are in the stoneage. With many racers, car buff's that are older than dirt(50+),but feel as if they are twenty still, talking about the same crap, thier ego or who has the fastest car,or the smallest tire.

Are you stuck in the 60,70,80,90,20+ with the type of car you have, or is the internet forms you are on dictating your opinion of the stoneage Mopar.
What form do you associate with the most?

I like in order of likeness. fastmopar, moparts, bullet,Abody,

Re: The Stoneage Mopar........ Sorry kind of long... - 01/07/12 11:36 PM

I'm don't have anything against all the new stuff but I'm stuck in the stone age financially because my budget doesn't allow for prochargers, turbos, fuel injection or aftermarket blocks.
I buy stuff one piece at a time and wait for the next deal to come along.
One of these days I'll be able to build a nice turbo big inch motor in a chrome moly chassis car but for now just a decent paint job sets me back a year.

Oh and I spend most of my automotive forum time here, other forums that I like are for football and such.

I'm like moparmanjames, buy what I can with the money that's available, win some deals and lose some because ya gota pay the bills. What's fast ? my car runs 10.30 at 130 mph, thats fast for me for what I got, when I read over some of these post I would guess that some of these cars should be running in the mid to low 8's but because it's a mopar it's mid to high 9's. . It's all about money, stuck in the stone age at 50+ hey! I resemble that remark! , like about 13 + years. Sure I would like those turbos, procharger or heck even fuel injection, but unless I win the lotto, which I don't play that's not going to happen.

Couple of questions? How old are you? 10 to 16 years old? Why are you trying to pit Mopar Forums against each other? The new foroum for the mopar guys is great but its still in diapers. Give it a year with all the blown up egos that were here are now there and we will see how things turn out.

Define fast??? And I am one of those old guys that is over 50...Right now we are on a limited income, yet I always try to upgrade my car as I can afford it. My goal is to run around a 10.10 so I don't have to jump all of the hoops with the NHRA. Don't get me wrong...I love seeing a door car that runs in the 8.xx range! I also have other hobbies too, such as a rather large firearms collection,a respectable coin collection and my grandkids. Now if you are talking about Josh's website,he did ask me to join. I am a mod here and the last thing we need is bad blood between two boards like we had happen a number of years back. That won't be tolerated. I wish him the best! Ted

Some of us "stone age, older than dirt"are the ones that keep the sport alive and help many of the "young guns" get started and help keep them racing with both finincal help and knowledge.
With out the older generation where would you and the sport be?
Many of us give without asking for anything in return, ego is for ignorant smart azzs that haven't a clue.
Look at all the 2nd and third generation racers, how did they get started? They looked up to their parents and friends that came before them, and with respect. Some people don't know the meaning of the word and make stupid statments.Myself,I cherish those who came before me and appreciate their efforts and knowledge.
Respectfully.
Bob
PS: I have joined Josh's site also, but also have many friends here on Moparts.I honestly can say that I for one like this site,I go on others as well but I don't need the drama, foul language and nudity to help measure me as a man. It's a free country and I respect everyones different views and adopt a take it or leave it attitude.

There is a wealth of knowledge on most all sites, the internet has opened a door to the world for all to share.Better and smarter is an opinion, they or anyone can be "better and smarter" in their respective area of knowledge, but "no one of us is smarter than all of us"
Maybe the OP should have clarified his statememt or used a better and smarter choise of words to deliver his message.

Same here as yes I am stuck in the 60's and 70's. It might be because I think they were the best years ever for a muscle car drag racing nut like me. I am old enough (mid 50's) and I still love this hobby. But I have to live within my budget which is not very big. I love the older (60's & 70's) Nostalgia door cars like NSS the best. Am I fast ?? All I wanted was a 10 second real street car that has the NSS look so maybe one day I can run an NSS class but still drive it on the street. Thats fast enough for me. Yes thats what I like and I really dont care who likes me for it and who dont as the only one I need to impress is myself. But I do like good friends and this hobby is full of them. Ron

i'm just a work-a-day guy ( oh yea, i just remembered i'm retired) with a limited budget in both money and knowledge so i try to play at a level i can afford in both catagories. that being said i always say thank you to the guys with deep pockets as they are the 1s paying for the innovations we see in this sport, not guys like me that won't and can't pony-up for something i know is out of my reach. but only you can determine that for yourself. and on the fast issue, i like to tell my brand x buddies " you have a nice, quick car, but it is not fast. unless you buy a flopper or pipe rack nitro car your just playing like the rest of us because they set the bar". i enjoy moparts because of the help i've recieved from here on different problems i've encountered playing with my cars and other than the search tool it is easy to navigate the forum. dave

After reading through this I have to say with race cars or internet sites

Just because it's new does not make it evil or the best

Just because it's old doesn't make it cool/great or lame

We all have different ideas/needs from our cars and where we get info on the web. I come here because it is not yellow bullet, but I go to other sites too.

A lot more Mopar guys must be stuck in the past. Just take a look at a Jeg's catalog and look at the Mopar section versus the Ford or Chevy sections for high performance parts.

We must really love those purple shaft cams and orange ignition boxes!!

Don't let a cataloge intimidate you,I have attended a few Super Chevy and Super Ford events over the years and compared to the Mopar Nats,Monster Mopar and other events they have very poor turn outs of cars and fans.Mopar racers, fans, show people and etc. are the most loyal and supportive of all the car manufactures. They are by far the most friendly bunch.Have you ever been to a Corvette Club show?It is like attending a gay ball and a Ford or Chevy event is like reading a book about Spy vs Spy.

That was funny Bob ,I went to a all out Ford meet at Milan Dragway and it was Impressive with the NEW Ford Mustangs. Then a few Older box cars. But a good turn out for fords I would guess... I was the only guy there with a Mopar Hat & shirt.

Well guys, I'm 27 years old and I appreciate that most of you are stuck in the stone age. I'm on this site all of the time pulling from your knowledge to work on my 69 Road Runner. I appreciate all of your help and your courtesy.

I wish I was born in your time almost every day. I have a decent amount of older friends and envy their lives due to the fact that so many things that were present or obtainable in their time are not or might not be in mine. I'm not talking about big things either, the small things are what get me.

On a lighter note, I live close to Columbus OH and am fortunate enough to be close to National trails where most big Mopar shows have been for years and the Mopar Nats is one of the biggest and best shows I have been to hands down and I have been to a lot of different brand shows. The people are great and some of you old Mopar guys could easily win look alike contests for Father Time, Grizzly Adams or ZZ Top; you crack me up! About the only close rivals are some of the guys at the Gear Jammer events which also sport a lot of old blood.

I will say that I also own some 4.6 Mustangs and wish to some day be able to afford to build a turbo 5.0 fox body car but for now my budget goes to the Road Runner.

Thank you all and don't change a thing!

I'm not old but I am approaching 40. I am not brand loyal either and like many of the muscle era cars, miss my split bumper camaro and hope to have another some day. The mopar cars were some of the fastest wildest cars out there and helped to define the era. There is no way to discuss the 60's muscle without covering many of the heavy hitters from mopar and they always draw a crowd in a parkIng lot full of mixed brands. This is after all a hobby. Have fun
