Any NE. Ohio machine shops that can install lifter bush - 12/16/11 12:10 AM

I over honed a lifter bore by accident. I either need a OS lifter body or a new lifter bore bushing installed.

Ive called 3 shops already, 2 said no, and 1 Precision machine hasnt returned my call yet. Jeffs a member here so he can respond here if he can.

I know theres another Mopar shop intown [ Canton] , but cant remember there name. Theres also a few shops up by Akron/Cleveland that may be able to install lifter bushings. But I dont know there names, Thanks in advance , Mike

Thanks for the info and personel input guys

Josh, Best machine is about a 5 hr round trip for me. Times that by 2 for delivery and pickup, its not the best scenario for me, though I absolutely have trust in thier work.

The New Philly, Akron, area is definately closer, 30 minutes. I need to check out where Bloomfield is for Bakers, and see how close that is.

Does anyone know the max acceptible clearence on the MP .904 lifter bore for racing.

Dan/Dram??

From what I can gather its around .002 but I think thats for the smaller diameter chevy/ford lifters. I cant find the recommended number anywhere in my books.

Sport440,
First off, thank you for thinking of us, and sorry to not call you back. I was told that someone called and asked about lifter bushings and that they would call back.
Unfortunately, we don't have the correct tooling to do that job. It is something that I want to have, but just haven't pulled the trigger on yet.
I would take it to Larry Sheppard in the Akron area. He is a long time Mopar engine builder and has done that job for us a few times in the past. I believe his phone number is (330)644-2000. If that is not correct, you can call me Monday at the shop and I will give it to you.
Tell him that I told you to call. Also, stop in the shop sometime and say hello.

How about Koffels, they have a location in Huron Ohio and a quick mapquest says about 2hrs from Canton. They are just north of Norwalk and I'm sure they could do it for you

Re: Any NE. Ohio machine shops that can install lifter bush - 12/20/11 05:17 PM

Rocky, yes I have known Jerry for years. I went to him with my very first motor I ever done. That was 20+ years ago. It was a 327 Chevy but hey I was young and dum.

He just got done machining my father-in-law's 345 1957 Desoto Hemi. He was in heaven because he had that motor in his shop and my Hemi in his shop at the same time. He still has mine and should be done machining it pretty soon.

He is a great down to earth kind of guy and is real meticulous when it comes to the work. You can easily kill 2 to 3 hours shooting the breeze with him everytime you enter his shop. He always has some interesting motor he is working on. If you have trouble finding a part he probably knows someone who may have it!!

Thats true.My kid used to take all the Harley shops machine work to him.He did the motors in my car and my sons along with 2 HDs we have.I cant believe he does so much work in that small shop.I never even ask for a price.Just drop off what I have and pick it up when hes done.Never any problems with his prices and he does know just about everyone that has parts.Rocky
