Thanks guys. The tire deal really did suck. On the way home from Carlisle the left front tire came apart at about 75 mph and tore up the bottom of the left front fender and the inner fender pretty bad. Scared the crap out of me when it happened. Took it to my paint guy today to look at it, he's pretty sure he can save the fender, but that I might have to have an inner fender so that he can fix the truck right. The only problem is that with all the storm damage vehicles in my area he is booked until sometime in December. I may have to put those training seminars by Kevin Tetz on paint and body that I went to at Carlisle to the test, Not. No way I would try to tackle this myself on this truck. I'll just have to wait until he can get to it. Thanks Michael for the deal on the manifolds they will be put to good use soon. Had a great time at Carlisle even if it did rain like crazy Thursday and Friday. Really hate the damage happen to the truck but thats part of driving, it happens. Thanks to Ric Aka 76440se for his and his wifes hospitality while I was there.
Larry.

The cover is an Extang Fulltilt model #8580. I really like the way it fits and the way it tilts up to access the bed. Hope that helps, any more questions just ask.

Larry, that truck is really stunning!

What was the deal with the tire?

Brand?

Older?

Wipe out the wheel?

Awesome! sorry about the tire though.

any other members win at Carlisle? My dad took 1st place in Vans, although the competition wasn't all that tough. there were only 2 street vans there, and a bunch of mid 80s conversions and some mini-vans; The other one was a survivor in one of the buildings. 2nd place vans went to a 76 brown window/passenger van that was very clean and original looking.

The tire tread seperated from the inside of the tire. The tire was older than should have been run, but they looked good and this truck stays inside all the time to not get very much sun on the tires to dry rot them. But I pushed my luck to far on the age of the tires and thats why it failed. When the tread came off and was slapping around is what did the damage to the truck it did not damage the wheel. The tire still had air in it after this happen an I was able to drive a ways, very slowly to get to a safe area to change it. There were some signs that there was something wrong before this happen. As I was leaving the fairgrounds and driving through Carlisle in traffic I had a vibration that wasn't usally there. I stopped before I got on the interstate to check the truck out thinking I might have a loose wheel or something. I jacked the truck up on the front and checked everyting I could see and found nothing. Made the decision to press on, although now I know that was the wrong one. At intersate speed there was no vibaration. I had made it about 70 miles out of Carlilse when this happen, just a couple of minutes before the tire came apart the vibration had came in at interstate speed nothing bad but you could feel it. So I know from now on what this happening feels like. I worried the whole way home 400+ miles about one of the other tires doing this. Tires are supposed to be changed every 5-6 years these tires were 14-15 years old still with very good tread on them. So I will know better from here on out to change tires when I'm supposed to.

I don't think so. I've been looking at some Coopers Cobras or some BFG TA's not sure which right now. The Uniroyal Tiger Paws that I had on it were good tires till I ran them to long.

Awesome truck. Sucks about the tire though. I've had several fail but I got lucky and they never hurt the fender. Are those rear wheels widened C-body rallyes? They look awesome.

Thanks yes they are Truck and C-body ralleys the rear ones I widened 2" to the outside and added the spinner center caps, front and rear. I wasn't sure at first when I did the wheels but once they were all done and on the truck I couldn't have been happier with them. Get lots of good comments on them all the time.

Side view don't look so bad

Inner fender is pretty well killed

Here is the culprit that caused all the problems

My body shop guy says he's pretty sure he can fix the fender and only have to paint the area below the trim, the red area down low. The inner fender is a differnt story. He said that at worst case we replace the inner fender but will probably cut off the lower part of the inner fender and graphed on another lower inner fender part to repair the damage. That will save having to paint in the engine bay and having paint match issues. So I'm in the hunt for a good left side inner fender. I'll be making a trip to my local junkyards and find me a good inner fender with a good lower section anyway.

Beautiful truck ! Sucks about the tire and resulting damage!!
How common are the dashes with the voltage, vacuum gauge and clock? With the one in your truck I have now seen 2. The one I have does not have the large opening for that stereo though.
I just picked up a clean 72 2x long bed custom 200 truck with a grill that is in great condition! The 72 I will be swapping on to a 74 4x4 200 chassis I have. The grill I may not use I am partial to the 74 grill.

My truck is supposed to have the Tach and volt & vac gauges. My tach is fried so I had an NOS clock so I stuck it in there for now till I get another tach which I scored this year at Carlisle. As far as common or rare not sure you really don't see it very often but I don't think the volt & vac and tach combo are super rare.
