Ram backup cams

Ram backup cams - 09/02/22 04:53 AM

2021 Ram has crisp clear image and hitch ball dotted line.
2017 Ram has crappy image and no dotted line.
Is the image quality difference in the cams, the head units or both?
Can a newer tailgate handle/cam be swapped into the 2017 for at least a better image?

It might be the head unit. My wife has a 2015 Grand Cherokee. We wanted the newer head unit so Apple Carplay would work. I bought one from a 2019 off of Ebay and installed it. The backup camera image is much crisper and the night vision is even better now.

Have you checked to make sure the camera lens isn't dirty/scratched?

I believe the grid lines are programmable...check your OM.

Lens is clean and clear. Truck only has 46k on it. New to us, no OM.
I thought I checked in the menu for the hitch guide lines but may not have as we were in a crunch to get on the road. I will check again.

Thank you both.

Thank you for the link. I have the guidelines active but it does not have the center dotted line that corresponds to the hitch ball.

I have a 2021 2500. I like my backup camera but I don’t have grid lines for lining up the hitch ball.
Was that something that only is found in the trailer convenience package or whatever it was called, that added a bunch of extra cameras to help prevent the blind spots by the trailer and trailer backing aids etc?

Possibly. I have "trailer blind spot monitoring" on the '21 but no other cameras aside from the one in the tailgate handle. Pretty sure it uses the sensors in the tail lights and adjusts distance when you have a trailer connected.

My 2015 2500 has the tailgate camera, nice feature but since I don't have bluetooth the monitor is in the mirror and pretty small. My 2015 3500 has no camera at all, and I still have no problem lining up a trailer hitch when backing up. I have noticed that most modern conveniences make people lazier or dumber...LOL

Both actually.
