Drag link help - 09/02/21 11:24 PM

There are two sizes of drag links for the 73 D100 big and small tie rod ends. Does anyone have the part number for the MOOG small end drag link? help

Usually they're listed by axle rating, if so you need NOT 4000 pound parts.

When they sent me a big tie rod end unit for a 73 D100 I thought the same thing too.

4WD doesn't have a drag link and D is 2WD. I don't know about the small and big on a D100 though. Did you look up the numbers for a 72?

So what do you call the link from the pitman to the knuckle arm on a 4wd?

I looked it up several different ways and can only find 2, a 1" link for the 3,000 and 3,300 pound axles and one for the 4,000 pound axle, but it doesn't give the diameter. I assume it's greater than an inch. laugh2

4wd does have a drag link.If not how and the name of Joe Biden did you steer one. Understood d=2wd and w=4wd.

Lol, not a drag link that connects the tie rod ends.

Huh?

Drag link connects pitman arm to drivers steering knuckle.

Tie rod connects both steering knuckles.

Center link connects pitman arm to tie rods.

A W has a drag link and a tie rod. A D has a center link and 2 tie rods.

Confusing, I know. What I should have said, according to the wording in the OP, is the W doesn't have a drag link that connects to the tie rods.

Anyway, did the OP measure his original bar and the replacement?

Right. At least someone here gets it. That is the way we always described the parts. Thats why I asked the OP if it was 2wd or 4wd. When he was calling the center link a drag link it had me wondering if it was 2wd or 4wd.

I have two truck a 86 and a 73, the 86 had the big tie rod ends the 73 has small. They sent me the big drag link, if worst comes to worse I will order two bigger inner tie rod ends. Both are two wheel drive, it will really get confusing when I put the 63 cab on the 86 frame with the 73 spindles and rear end. runaway

I don't have a catalog handy to look this up but, was there a change in the early half ton D trucks? I mean besides the well known 4000 and not 4000 pound ratings? Of course the 4000 was heavy 3/4 ton and 1 ton stuff not seen on half tons.

What I'm getting at is are there actually 3 center links for 73 D trucks? A 4000# , and 2 versions of not 4000?
