Sway Bar - 11/23/20 06:22 PM

I’m looking to installing a front sway bar on my 74 D100. Looking for suggestions on which bar I should get.

The factory unit works fine for me. They are getting tough to find though, in my neck of the woods anyway.

Any pics of yours on how the bar is mounted?

Here are some pics of one I found in a yard. Sorry they are not very good. Mine is sitting on the floor and not installed yet.
They go to the strut rods.

I MIGHT be able to get pics of my stock one. I need to go under anyway to fix a fuel problem.

Cool, mighty nice of you to do that. I guess my next step is to find one.

I'll shoot for this weekend for the pics of mine. Last time it was too dark to take anything decent and it's not at home.

I have added 2 bars on my d150 trucks. I also have a set of d350 pocketed LCAs = 1 ton and uses a thicker bar that is bent a different shape to fit the LCA than the standard 1/2 ton sway bars.

this is how I am lowering/adding 1 ton sway bar to my 88D100 440 truck.

I have to enlarge the LCA frame mount holes to bolt LCA on.
I use the larger 1 ton BJ/steering arm and bolts- then drill the upper 1/2 ton spindle lower holes to fit the large BJ steering arm bolts and bolt the large BJ steering arm to the 1/2 ton upper spindle.

for the coil springs FYI- 1/2 ton chassis have a 11" tall spring and 12" tall spring depending on model/yr. 3/4 & 1 ton use a much thicker coil/height spring depending on model/yr.

I use the D100 11" 1/2 ton spring with the 1 ton pocketed LCA (which have a deeper pocket than the 1 /2 ton pocketed van/LCA)

then add the 1" thick D350 sway bar.

all stock dodge chassis parts and it lowers front 4"+ gives a large lower BJ/bushings for the weight of the 440 up front on a d100 chassis.

down side to this way is finding a d350 with the sway bar/LCA/lower steering arm and bolts.

I may have to buy a 1 ton d350 just to get a bar with mounts. I got all but the bar and mounts.

Rear mounts like some of the aftermarket C body bars. Problem with the aftermarket bars is no front Mounting plates

FYI those pics are 1 /2 ton and that's how it bolts up to strut rods. a 1 ton bolts to the LCA and is shaped different. so when JY searching keep that in mind if you find on with some stuff MIA

for the rear you can use a rear bar and mounts under a d100/150 chassis from a DAK. not to hard to retro fit one or find. don't see why a after market rear cant be made to work.

member 340shorty did that to his d150 before he left us. (RIP Larry Green)

IIRC we talked the mod over and you use a 2000 Dakota R/T factory sway bar & mounts. IIRC you might have to drill holes in the frame and the bar mounts on rear axle with links to frame.

yes 1/2 ton links look just like one on mid 80s 5th aves/cars and mount on strut rods same way.. probly could use the link clamps and rubber. I have broken the stude off the clamp and used some shoulder bolts washers/nuts to weld on clamp and space the rubber mounts out as a repair to one of mine. ezer than finding a link clamp when broke and flopping under there.

Good idea on the 2000 Dak R/T rear.

My priority first is the from bar. From what I’ve seen the aftermarket bars don’t come with the stock style mounting brackets. As far as the rear bar the Dakota bar sounds interesting.
