71 4x4 drag link

..Well...from one mystery to another!!!....This '71 W100 I have has power steering...the old Garrison/Eaton style with hoses everywhere! The drag link has the valve built into it with 4 pressure hoses going to and from it. This drag ling appears to have 2 ends threaded onto it with adjustable sleeves like a tie rod would have. The rear link end is quite sloppy.Problem is, nothing in the parts book, and when you do find a picture of the link, it shows a set up like and old '50's truck that had just a stud and ball with socket type.
I really would like some opinions on how to source out the ends to this drag link (similar to the old Chevy 4x4 drag link ends). Of course, thread size and the taper on the stud would be critical. Any ideas??? Surely someone has come across this....

try dcm in michigan. they are supposed specialist in stuff for dodge trucks. i helped my buddy sell all his nos stuff to another guy not dcm as dcm appeared not to want all just to cherry pick parts.i still have the parts inventory sheet if you can get a part number of the part you want.

There-in lies the problem....no part number in the Chrysler 70/71 truck parts catalogue or anything online....I believe that this power setup was a SERT equipment option in those years which you had to specify the SERT number off the VIN plate and contact Mopar for the numbers.

do you have a 70/71 dodge truck parts book? if so, in the front of it, i thick it says accessories, look there for additional info on equipment. it may be there. good luck.

i just looked and sweptline parts shows some of the p/s stuff and also state they can have stuff rebuilt. worth a look.

Does the truck have a SERT number? I've never seen evidence that power steering was ever available on a W100/200. I have seen SERT numbers on a few W500s that had it. That system was probably retrofitted by a previous owner.

Nope...no SERT number on the tag. But the parts book does show power steering on a W1-200

If you're ends can be removed, pull them and check thread size and direction. Measure the stud diameter at the big and small ends and the distance between them. Also need length from center of stud to end of the threaded end.

Older Moog catalogs had dimensions listed, they might have them on their website too.

Basically, that's what I did today.....it appears to have the 11/16th's 18 TPI type. The Moog listings don't show anything with the proper taper on the stud,. I scoured the internet and came up with one that looks correct...actually fitting a '57-'59 truck tie rod or drag link end. We'll see I guess.....I guess I could always take the pitman arm off the box and get the tapered hole retapered if neccessary at a machine shop .

Well....Here was the solution. I ended up getting a MevoTech MES158R tie rod/drag link end that was actually listed to fit 1957,1958,1959 Power wagons. The threaded end was about 3/4" too long to fit in the threaded sleeve so out come the recip saw and the rest just fit perfect. Nice to have tight steering now...whole different truck to drive. Now....spring bushings!!
