New Ram 2500 Cummins truck - 06/20/19 01:38 PM

Well, I done went and done it. I bought a new truck. Never thought I would want to or would be able to but it's all come together. I bought a 2018 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 cummins. Got the extended warranty with it. It's a nice truck. Didn't know when I bought it but it has a factory gooseneck and exhaust brake.

That's a nice truck!!! And probably my favorite color for the Gen 2 on up trucks. Had a '95 extended cab in that year's version of the color, and just loved it (gasser). Hope you enjoy it!

Nice truck and getting the extra warranty is a smart move. I'd love to have a new truck but I'm just not sold on the 6.7. I'll keep my old 12 valve for now. At least I know after the bomb drops all I will need is 12 volts and some fuel to get it running.

Thanks.
I wasn't crazy about the 6.7 til I bought this. Been driving the wheels off of it. Has 1300 miles already. Average 18-22 mpg. 18 towing, 22 empty. Not crazy about the def an EGR but it will get deleted at the first sign of trouble. Going from 400 lb ft of torque to 800 lb. ft. of torque is great.

I love my 6.7 even though its an auto... on tow mode with the exhaust brake, towing seems effortless. I live where there are lots of hills and wish I had went with one years ago.

I can STILL smell the brake pads of my dually going through the side roads of SW PA 15 years ago instead of that high dollar toll road ! Big mIsTaKe !

EGR is barely used on the DEF era engines. The 14 and newer have been a phenomenal package. Great mpg, more tolerant of short trip/light duty drive cycles, extended oil life, two fuel filters which is something I feel should have been in place since 03. You’ll love towing with it. I’ve towed with my friends 15 and it’s unbelievable how it holds speed going down steep grades. I could practically take a nap compared to wheeling my 01.

I'd be glad if I never see any issues with the def and egr. I have almost 2k on it and the def tank still says 3/4 full. Fuel mileage is 14-16 city and 22-24 high

Do you have a feel for what your mileage will be when towing on the highway? I assume it would drop back to something close to the city MPG.

When you are not towing DEF usage should be really low. I drive a 2016 Duramax daily(work supplied) and with no Load I almost forget that it ever takes DEF because it uses so little.

We have had several DEF pickups at work and have had very little trouble with the emissions system. Our only DPF problem was on a ford with 220K miles on it and it got coolant all over it from a bad EGR cooler.

I'm getting around 14 towing and that's driving 80 mph plus. Drop back to 65 and it's around 15.5 to 16

had to run to Lexington today to pick up 2 garage door panels, had to take the trailer because they are 16 ft long. Ran 75-80 most of the time and averaged 16 mpg. Not bad for speed and a big heavy trailer
