engine noise? - 03/08/19 12:26 PM

Got a 08 ram 1500 5.7 when started for first time in the morning it has a fairly loud tick/nock . If you shut it off and immediately restart it the noise goes away. It has 205000km and the oil is changed every 5000km.

Thanks

Check your exhaust manifold bolts - the ones on the the outer ends of the manifolds . . . bet you find they are loose, because they are broken ! Once the manifold warms up, then it expands and reduces the exhaust leak . . .known issue . . . google it, or get on the ramtruck forum and you will see . . .

Also suggest you make sure your oil filter has an anti-drainback valve. If not equipped oil pressure is delayed and the lifters can rattle for a bit.

If it quiets down IMMEDIATELY I would guess lifter noise, and no big deal, just took a few seconds for oil to pump it/them up. Even if it took five or ten seconds in cold weather I wouldn't be concerned. That's for a tick noise, as in lifters. Low end knock that doesn't go away in a few seconds, different story.
