Rear Shocks - 03/07/19 10:43 PM

89 Dakota 2WD 3.9. Air shocks in there now. Have a pair of SensaTrac Load Levelers with coil springs laying around. Thinking of switching out. What are you using?

How much lift do you need? Then, why do you need the lift? Tire clearance or load capacity?

I usually lower the rear ends on the Dakota chassis I use, there is usually plenty of height for anything I've needed. Gene

Not height, just better ride quality and level body.

I've not ever experienced a better ride with any shock that had a helper spring, they have always made the ride a bit stiffer to me. Your experience may be different then mine has been. Gene

Shocks aren't going to make it level. The higher rear end angle needs new springs to lower it the same height as the front. My Durango ,same chassis as the Dakota took 3" eibach drop coil springs to get it level. Your's uses leaf springs I think and they make a lowering kit for that also. Before .

Air shocks and coil over shocks make for a lousy ride. Find yourself a good set of nitrogen or gas-charged shocks.
Change your shocks first and see how it sits before you change anything else .
