18 Power Wagon egr tick?

18 Power Wagon egr tick? - 12/15/18 04:29 PM

I have 4k on the truck now and it has always had a slight tick from the passenger side of the truck but more towards the rear of the engine under the cowl. This is after the truck is warmed up and under slight load (accelerating, going up small grades). I could not find an exhaust leak anywhere. I took it into the dealer and they kept it for a few days and said no leaks and all the 6.4s do that. They said it was the Y pipes merger design on the bigger gas engines.

I don't buy the Y pipe excuse and told them I will fab up a new one and let them know what happens. I have been driving diesels for the past 15 years so I have no experience with EGR valves. To me the noise seems to originate towards the rear of the engine where the EGR is (thing is buried). I have tried googling EGR 6.4 to see how these things works but get inundated with 6.4 powerstroke issues. I am assuming the EGR valve is opening and closing at different times depending on driving conditions? The noise slightly changes when the truck is in eco mode. Do EGR valves even make noise or am I just driving myself crazy?

Thanks,

Josh

Hey Josh! Pretty sure you're just driving yourself crazy! ( It's a short trip for some of us!) Tell yourself it just wants to be a 12 valve. runaway

That is just the normal Hemi tick, been going on since 2003... eyes My particular Hemi tick is the right year exhaust manifold bolt that is broken, once it starts to warm up it goes away. $200 deductible on my lifetime powertrain warranty on my 2015 Ram may fix it, but they said if they cannot remove it they may have to take the head off! eek I just live with it... frown

Haven’t a lot of the Chrysler all-electric EGR valves on all styles of engines failed short of the 100,000 mile emissions warranty limit?

6.4L EGR is located in the front on the rt side.It is water cooled. The cooler for it is under the intake. There is a gasket for the tube from the exh man to the cooler.Never leak. More likely a noisy injector.

I just replaced the EGR on my 2006 minivan with 134K on it. Gas mileage went from 22 to 14 when it went bad... eek
