Check the pinion nut for tightness, they're known to come loose.

Pinion bearings growl from start to hwy speed is the only common issue that I know of, whether nut comes loose or not.

place rear of truck on jack stands
remove rear wheels and brake drums
disconnect driveshaft
pinion shaft should turn smoothly
if it turns with any jerky motion , pinion bearings and/or axle assembly is bad
this applies to any replacement axle assembly as well , it MUST turn smooth at the pinion shaft

Limited slips tend to break the retainer clips and grind on the housing.
