'79 LRE (D150) Rear Window Seal

'79 LRE (D150) Rear Window Seal - 07/29/18 01:12 PM

Regarding the rear window seals on these trucks I see there is two different seals. One that accepts inserts and one that doesn't. My truck has a factory rear sliding window and I'm not sure what seal would be appropriate for my application? I can't seem to find much regarding which seal would be correct. I know both seals state that would accept an aftermarket sliding window.

From what I've heard the factory sliding rear window uses a different seal then the plain window and they're hard to find.

Impossible to find is more like it. No one makes it. The aftermarket sliders are different but if it's a factory slider there are no new seals.

You must be looking at dodgeconnection.

I'm in the same boat with my '79 Power Wagon.

Thank you all. Yes, I was looking at Dodge Connection which sells the Precision Brand products. Both accept an aftermarket slider but, the difference is the trim according the information posted. But, since they are referring to an aftermarket slider and not the factory that why I was asking as well.

On a bit of a tangent, don't buy the repro coolant overflow reservoir they sell. I did, and the fit is poor, the cap area is poorly molded making it very difficult to put cap on, and when I tried to carefully adjust the hose coming off the cap, the nipple on the cap broke right off! I to re-use old cap. And putting the new hose on 39 year old cap nipple didn't even cause that one to break off.

Don't get me wrong, I think they are good people there, this product just isn't so good.

Larry sorry to here you had an issue with the tank - we have sold 100's of them with only 1-2 ever being retuned. Contact as dcsalesnservice@comcast.net and I can get you a new cap.

No worries, I used the old cap. Maybe I just got a bad one then. It can happen.

Like I wrote, you're good people and I've bought other stuff from you and will continue to buy from you up

I have a factory slider and gasket you can have if it can be removed intact.

I always take a knife blade and cut the rubber and pop them out. but if they are scarce/rare to find maybe it can be removed and someone make use of it.

pm if interested. I can get some pics of it.

Thank you for the offer on the factory slider and gasket. My original intent was to see if there something on the aftermarket that would work. Better yet, does anyone have the Mopar part# for the original gasket. If so, just PM here and I will keep a look out.

Re: '79 LRE (D150) Rear Window Seal - 08/08/18 09:28 PM

ok, I just hate to knife it out if there was a chance someone could use it.

just another reason I went solid glass/new gasket in all mine and have glass/gasket to go in the place of this slider.

I went back and pull the 4 junk doors back out of the scrap pile to remove the wing glass/runners all mech rods and latches after see some ebay prices.

not to mention finding any of it in the close future.

I will be sure to look both over well for a part# when I get around to R&R the glass.

Scratch if the slider gasket is the kind with the thin rubber insert...I have taken that insert out and actually just pushed the slider out without cutting the gasket.

ok, it is a funky looking gasket around it. I will check again to see if it has the thin lock strip.

I just noticed www.lmctruck.com does list gaskets for rear windows both standard and "custom" showing the slider. Page 11 of the catalog for Dodge trucks.

It says the standard doesn't have a groove for trim and custom does, which I would guess they might be referring to the locking strip? It looks like both are for normal glass and not the slider.

I have not seen a factory slider removed, but they fit flush with the body while the aftermarket ones stick out, so I would guess that would be why there's a difference in gasket.

One of the pics is of a slider in my paper catalog. Page 11.

I see. It doesn't state "slider" but pic clear shows a slider too.

yeah I noticed that too. It would be nice to see the difference between the seals. Some places like dodge connection make note on the slider thing other sites don't.
