Ramcharger gas tank source? - 11/25/17 05:34 PM

My son's 1989 Ramcharger is leaking fuel. Anybody know where to buy a new gas tank?

They're made of unobtainium. Best option I know of is:

If you're going to use the engine mounted fuel pump you'll be fine, otherwise you'll have to come up with an alternative electric fuel pump arrangement.

have you considered using fuel tank liner,it comes by the quart and is simple to use and it works on metal tanks,i haven't tried it on plastic, but the manufacture should be able to tell you
the brand i used is called red kote,or redcote?

Looks like they don't make tanks anymore. They sold that part of their business and the new company does not list the RC as one they make. I will email them and see - thanks

Not sure what size came on the Ram Chargers but I have a plastic one that came off my '80 D150. I think its an 18 gallon.

the d150 tank is totally different than the '89 Ramcharger. The RC tank sits in the very rear of the truck between the frame rails. The D150 tank sits on the side of the bed on the outside of the frame rail.

BTW - solved the problem. Turns out it was a small crack. Was able to "plastic weld" it and now she's as good as new. While I was at it, I replaced the in-tank fuel pump and strainer. Glad I did that smile

ChallengerGary,

My truck came with 2 tanks, one on the side and one in the back between the frame rails.

The rear tank on the pickups is a lot smaller the most RC tanks. Pickup rear tanks are usually 18 gal range and the RC tanks are in the 35 gal range, at least the ones around here were. I suspect the pickup tank would fit in the RC if you had the straps and sending unit. The RC tank is a lot deeper. Gene
