Good truck cam?

I just bought a NOS mopar direct connection purple shaft cam and lifter set from a friend for cheap. I am concerned with the duration being too high and sacrificing low end torque. First off, it's going in a .040 over 360 with slightly more compression than stock. This motor is going in my W350 which has an automatic and 4.10 gears. The part number is P4286671. The duration is 272. The overlap is 48. Lift is .455"/.455". Recommended installation centerline is 108. What can I expect out of this cam?

Oh yeah, it's a hydraulic flat tappet cam

It wouldn't be my first choice but if you advance it 4 or 5 degrees I think it would be livable.

I've got that cam in my '85 d350 four door, 360, stock compression, stock intake, headers, duals, automatic, same gear.
Rough idle, poor low end, great at highway speeds.
So I guess I'd recommend a milder grind, or more compression, or try advancing it.
I degreed mine and set it to whatever the cam card suggested.
I guess it's been in the truck since '98, keep thinking I'm gonna change it one day!

I agree with everyone else. I have that cam in my 340 challenger with the 340 factory high stall 3.55 gears and 26" tire and it is a little soft on the bottom end.

228 intake duration at 50 lift? No way is this a truck cam. It's the predecessor to the 761 cam that Mopar Performance used a thousand years ago to make around 400 hp with a 318 with their ported 302 heads. The 757 cam is much easier to live with.

I think I'd look at Lunati's smallest or second smallest Voodoo or a Hughes with around 208 intake duration at 50.

The really sick part is that when this camshaft was being sold, Direct Connection/Mopar Performance refused to publish any figures for duration at 50 lift. Reading the engine manual at the time it sounded like they thought the public was too stupid to use the information properly. Their suggestion was to pick the cam by the lift, and they'd tell us what lift to use to get what results. There was a series of recipes in the old engine books, for example, how to build a 13.50 machine, something like that.

I have a comp 260H in my 85 W-150 with a stock 360 other than duals and a 670 holley. It`s 212/212 at 0.050 with .440/.440 lift. I thought maybe I went too small but it works really well in the truck. Lots of low end,and pulls good to about 4500 or 5000 rpm.

In my book you made a perfect cam selection. That's exactly what I've been telling people. Single pattern, 208 - 212 duration at 50, about 0.45 lift, 110 LSA. Back in the day there were about 8 different variations on that cam. The cam doesn't make you change the springs or machine the valve stem seal bosses. Congratulations!

The cam selection is no longer a problem. I found a complete running Cummins 4x4 5 speed truck for 1000 bucks that will be my new parts truck. Thanks for the input everyone.
