Lowering a 2017 RAM 2500 - 03/12/17 07:32 PM
I am hoping this is an appropriate question in the right area. I am not like most that want to lift my 2 wheel drive 2017 RAM 2500 Laramie with the 6.4 HEMI. I want to mildly lower it. I use it primarily for towing a 5th wheel RV. My previous ride (an F150, please forgive me, I did do the right thing buying the RAM) was lowered and pulled a travel trailer excellently when everyone was saying I couldn't tow with a lower truck. The RAM sits higher than I really like so I would like to do a 2/3 or 2/4 lowering. I would then add an Air Lift bags in the rear springs to level the truck (as necessary) when I tow. The RAM has the all coil suspension that looks like there should be no problem lowering it, however, I can't seem to find anywhere to buy coils to lower it. I have found a rear bag kit from Kelderman for the rear that replaces the rear coils and they reference an upcoming front system but I would prefer to keep the truck all coil sprung because of cost and keeping it closer to original. I thought about contacting coil manufacturers to see if I could get a custom set of coils manufactured with the same spring rates as OEM for the RAM but just shorter for the drop I want. I have read on RV Forums that I am not the only one interested in doing this, however, no one seems to have pursued this very hard, just looked in the usual places and concluded no way, no one is producing parts to do this. I would also appreciate any input on what to be cautious of such as pinion angle, alignments, etc. Just thought I would ask this great and informative MOPAR community to see if I can hopefully find a solution to my dropping this great truck I special ordered and have driven and towed with since Nov 1, 2016. Sorry for the long input to a simple question. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.
