1994 Dakota v-6 is a 904a possible behind a 3.9? - 01/01/16 09:30 PM

This is a long shot but has anyone converted a 3.9l v-6 in a truck or van (2wd) to a 904 automatic?

I understand the bell housing is the same bolt pattern and the flywheel from the 3.9 is needed for the crank trigger to work. Because I don't have the two pieces sitting in front of me yet I cannot see if it will work. I know the 3.9 is not a super build able engine, but I want to try. Currently the engine is in front of a 4wd transmission which is going bye bye. I want to switch out to a 904.

Thank you,
Joe

Never seen one in a dakota that late but vans did use them till the mid 90s. I have one in my stash from a 94 (I think) van with the notch for the crank sensor and it has the electric un lock for the converter like the cop cars did in the late 80s.

Cut the notch in the bell and install the crank sensor & flywheel. Should be good to go. Gene

oval out the crank sensor holes and cheat it to the passenger side to increase timing...

Sorry for the delay I was working when I wrote the post initially and just got back on to view the posts.

Thank you for all the help and I see I need to use the flywheel from the 3.9. The notch in the bell housing is easy as I still have the original transmission from the 4wd truck and all the harnesses.

I posted this on the truck forum as this engine was in all the trucks and not rwd cars that I am aware of. I am looking to swap this engine into a 64-66 A-body and am trying to do the least amount of mods to the car as it is very very clean. The 904 will drop right in with out modifying the floor. This is for my son and I to build and I need to stick with a Mopar engine and a v-8 is great but just like what everybody else has. A turbo v-6 in an 64-66 A-body would be cool. But getting the power to the rear axle is the issue. I'm not trying to be cheap, just different.
Thank you for your help.
