Plug change for 08 Ram 1500 4x4? - 05/12/15 11:22 PM

How bad of a job is a plug change on a 08 Hemi ?

Anyone know what a dealer would charge to do it?

What else do you you change when you do the plugs?

The truck has 106,000 Kms on it.

Thanks

I did mine in about an hour and a half maybe two hours. It wasn't exactly hard but it wasn't the easiest job in the world either. The back few plugs take all the time.

A little WD40 on the coil connectors helps. And patience. 2 hours sounds about right for DIY. Not a bad job though if you take your time.

Agreed on the time frame - 1.5 to 2 hours. Back plugs, maybe an additional extension and universal. A little Anti Seize on the plug threads and a dab of Dielectric silicone in each plug boot. Considering it's a routine hemi tune up, pop in a new PCV valve and Air Filter while you're at it.

Also, doesn't hurt to clean the throttle body. Easiest way is to unbolt it (disconnect the wiring first), take it off and gently wipe the tarnish away using a soft cloth with Brake Kleen or Mopar Throttle Body cleaner. Use a Q-Tip for the tight areas. Avoid flopping the butterfly valve back and forth. Lightly blow with compressed air to ensure no fibers or dust remains. Bolt it back on and reconnect the wires. Indeed, patience required and overall take your time but it also can be fun tuning up the Hemi!

Took me about two hours. I took my time and I did have to use different extensions on the back two plugs near the booster. Not a easy job but not horrible either.
