TRANSMISSION QUESTIONS - 04/05/15 05:37 PM

I have a 95 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 gas Auto 4x4. What years interchange with the trans in this? And will a trans from a 1500 work? Do the v-10 bell housings match up with the v-8?
Thanks!

I am guessing that you most likely a 46RH (727 shaped pan) transmission and it should have lockup. That doesn't leave you a lot of choices, I believe 94-95 might be about it---Maybe '96. I think the 93 and earlier are non lockup trans, But don't quote me on that.

I can't remember if it was '96 or '97 that they went to the 46RE transmissions, and those won't work for you.

v10/cummins are their own special bell pattern--because they hold a 15 inch flywheel or a turbo 400 torque converter----yes the turbo400 was an early allison unit and chrysler figured it cheaper to use a proven unit instead of doing R&D a whole new TQ converter.....

Just about any V8 magnum 46RH trans from 92 to 95 should work for you. Things to look for are the electrical connector on the top left rear of the trans, the cooler line fitting size and the speedometer hole.
