who's done it????give me some pointers

i gotta buddy who has an 89 sb four wheel drive,he wants to put a late model 318 magnum in it,he wants to keep the multiport,and also he wants too use the tranny in the truck because he recently had it rebuilt,can i pull the wiring harness and all out of the underhood and under dash and transplant it in the 89?i know it will have to have the flywheel outa the 98 van,but will the torque convertor work in the 89 tranny?cause i dont think so,or what do i do there?how bout engine mounts?im just looking for some direction,he wants me too do it,i just wanna know what kind of job i'm getting myself into,thanks for your time.

My son swapped a 360 magnum and an NV4500 into his 88 where a 318 (86HP or so) and automatic was. It was fairly easy and he only had to figure out a couple of wires. It sure changed that truck from a 23 second dog into a 16 second bit of a Hot Rod (that's 16 seconds with 3.5 gears and 36 inch tires).
