84 Headlight Switch Replacement - Truck - 02/10/14 01:55 AM

So the Haynes manual was priiity vague... OR, was it?

Remove bezel.
Press release button and remove knob.
Remove retaining nut and lower switch.

Is it THAT easy? How about the delay wiper lever? - Does the bezel just come out over that or does that have to be removed before the bezel?

I just had my hip replaced and I can't go all contortionist-style up under the dash to do the work. I was hoping someone here had some experience with this and could throw me their !

Thanks!

Yep its that easy...not
Pretty much as they say but pushing the button is not always that simple, when pushing the button you have to fiddle with it and keep pulling the knob in and out until it comes out.
Good luck

If thats the switch its that easy.Hardest part is getting to the back to press the button. Then just pull the stem out.Unscrew the old and hook the wires up to the new one. Then reverse.Rocky

Did one in a '85 a while back. You have to take the gauge cluster bezel off, then the small bezel around the headlight and wiper switch. The wiper knob just pulls off, and there's a small button on the bottom of the switch you press to pull the headlight knob out, it's kinda hard to get to up under the dash but not bad.

The hardest part for me was trying to unclip the plug from the top of the switch, there's not much of an opening to work through, and the wires are pretty short.

Yup, what he said.

I didn't take the knob off the wiper switch, just sort of twisted the smaller bezel around it, and off it was.

Laying on my back to reach up to get pressure on that little button is the worst part. Once you get your finger on that, pull the headlight knob all the way out, press the little button, and push the headlight knob back in slightly to release things, then the knob and shaft pull right out.

When re assembling, just push the knob in ...

Just did it last week on my '85, almost all healed up already.

Sometimes you have to push the little button when you reassemble the shaft back into the switch to get them to seat, at least the last 2 I did was that way. Gene
