1988 dodge d150 wheels - 09/18/13 05:19 PM

Looking for a good place to buy my son some wheels for his 1988 d 150...I'm pretty sure its got that odd ball 5 x 5 1/2 bolt pattern and i'm not having much luck finding wheels for it...Any help is appreciated.

Oddball 5 on 5 1/2" pattern? Where have you been living for the past 60 years?
Wheels are out there for jeeps and ford pickups, to say nothing of the Dodge trucks. There are probably more than 200 different wheels that can be found with that bolt pattern.

So take your pick!

Now a rant from me...Why oh why did the wizards at Dodge make the centerbore so small on their 5 on 5 1/2" wheels? try to put them on an older version, or a ford F150...spacers required for the centerbore only.

Not an oddball pattern. All trucks have been 5.5" since 85
4was were from 72-74 than 80 up 2wds 85 up. Summitracing.com jegs but same selection. Since its 2wds you can swap to 84 motors and track down a 5x4.5 rear axle to get a better selection.

Well i guess what i meant oddball is that about everything i've seen in that bolt pattern is ugly as #$^%^ or looks like 60 model vintage wheels..

I'll continue looking until i find something that doesn't look ancient or looks like they were designed 60 years ago.

Most anything these days look like F#@k. What's wrong with the 60era wheels? Just go in the picture thread and scroll through it. Maybe get an idea.

I have a 1987 D100 that came to me with a wheel and tire package from Discount Tire. The wheels are 16" and the tires are the P245r/75/R16 Truck T/A Radials. I don't have pictures of it, but check out the DiscountTire.com web site and I think you will be surprised at the variety out there. They fill the wheel wells very nicely.

Actually I went back and took out an extra "r" in the tire size of the original post and evidently the software counted it as another post
The wheels I have are not "ricer" at all.

Not sure what you are looking for but I did quick search on tirerack.com and they have 97 different wheels for your truck - something should catch your eye.

So I went outside and took pictures of the wheels that I have. My public was clamoring for pictures!! So I had to oblige

Unfortunately, I need schooling in how to shrink photos, because both of them are bigger than the limit

I realized that if I went to a "close up" it would reduce the pixel count to a manageable level, so here it is

I wasn't dog piling, I was just making mention that there are many, many different manufactures to choose from.

I find myself drawn to this wheel... Of course it would be best on a 4x4...

Re: 1988 dodge d150 wheels - 09/19/13 03:14 AM

Yuk, yuk and yuk ...

for me mostly, its the size of the center cap

but I don't want throwing stars designed in the 2000's for my 1980's truck

At some point I'm going to put a 4 1/2 bolt pattern on mine

"Throwing stars." LMAO!

Around these parts, the "Rockstar" wheels are quite popular. I think they are UUUUGLY. The centercaps are so big, they look like they should be hangin' around Flavor Flav's neck.

...And...

A late 80s/early 90s short bed Dodge project is on my bucket list. I will be looking to go down to 5 on 4.5 for better wheels.

IMO these are some of the best looking new style wheels on the market that look good on the 70s/80s trucks.. and can be had in the 5.5 pattern..

I am partial to steel wheels on a PU. Still lots of choices. My '78 brand F 3/4 ton runs US Wheel "rock crusher" chrome steelies. Here are some choices in 5 x 5 1/2 (note I did not verify pilot bore diameter check or call to be sure).
