'72-'80s w/White Painted Bumpers? - 08/14/13 04:38 AM

Maybe I just never noticed this, but were white painted bumpers available from the factory on U.S. '72-'80 D/W series trucks? Seems all I've ever seen are chrome plated bumpers, until I came upon this Mexican market brochure.

I've seen at least one truck that had a white bumper. I lost this pics in a hard drive crash, though. From what I know, they were standard issue on base model trucks, but I don't know what years.

Like I said I had 2 76s and an 80 with white bumpers. Those ate the ones I remember.

Looking at the Dealership Data books at www.hamtramck-historical.com for '72-'77 (as far as I got), it appears the front painted bumper (and rear, too) was optional, and the chrome front bumper standard

These look like factory painted bumpers:

Dodge M880s probably all came with painted bumpers. The truck in the post above mine looks like it could be an M880.

Were the M880s delivered(?) with white painted bumpers, or were they olive drab like I've seen some M880 grilles?

This one has a white front bumper and grille, but I have no idea if either or both are factory painted:

The M88X's were delivered in Olive Drab. Bumper, and grille.

A sure way to detect an ex Military Power Wagon is to look for the cutouts in the grille.

After leaving Military service, some facilities would swap in a new/used grille, or even strip and polish the painted grille.
