lil red express trucks came with the EH1 360 4bbl motor,727 and a 3.55 geares 9 1/4" rear. options were a/c and black or red int with bench or bucket seats and thats about it for options.

78 there were around 2000 made and in 79 there were around 5000 made.

I have never heard of a Lil Red Express coming from the factory with a 440.. Warlock ? Yes but never heard of one in the Express. But that doesn't mean somebody didn't have the money and means to have one built that way...

that's only if you didn't have enough money to order one of the left over hemis. i heard a couple of hemis were built, with some old engines they found in a container in the back lot.

*of course there were no big blocks.

What are these trucks worth? I seen a 78 that was in poor rusted condition yesterday here in Grand Forks. He wanted 3995.00 for it and honestly with the amount of rust I don't think it would be worth all the $$$ necessary to fix it up. I should take a pix of it and post it to see what you guys think.

If its a rust bucket that sounds a little high to me.. Really depends on options and how complete the truck was ( Air cleaner, fresh air ducts, chrome steps, stacks, bucket seats, etc...) Supposedly only around 680 or so of the 1978 models have survived...Just like many project vehicles it will never be a money maker but its a labor of love...

they are all over the place.. have seen real nice restored ones that guys are 14+k. but i don't seem to see them actually sell.

78 is worth more than the 79 because of the production numbers.

problem is you have to put a lot of money into it and it and in the end it won't be worth so much. plus the air cleaner, air tubes, wood, chrome stps and stacks are the expensive parts. if they are not there its gonna cost you to get them. some of it is repopped but it sure isn't cheap.

Well , I took a few pix in the rain; couldn't get the hood open to see what surprises there were. But it is in rough shape; grille dented, lots of rust, bed wood rotten and lots of dents. here are a few pix.

Re: Lil red truck - 05/20/13 07:23 PM

I'd offer $2800, fix the rust, and drive it as a truck.

Re: Lil red truck - 05/20/13 08:16 PM

It does look rough, I can already see that the original exhaust tips are wrong, & the tailights...I give no more than 2500.00 for it if it has the original engine, trans, aircleaner, chrome valve covers, tubes, wheels, ect, ect.

Try to talk him down for sure.

Re: Lil red truck - 05/20/13 09:14 PM

Too much ND/MN rust for me to take on and it is about $2,500 too high on the price.

Re: Lil red truck - 05/20/13 09:18 PM

If you are in the market for one of these trucks keep looking. There are better deals out there.. Would like to see pics of interior and under hood for a total assessment.. The original wheels are a big plus as they are very pricey...

There are 5 known vins of Canadian 440 express trucks D code trucks. I know of 2 . 1 showed up on Kijiji a few years back Heavily modified and apart. Ownwer wanted 40K for it. ..had it been restored or a virgin original, I would have bought it.

The other 1 belongs to a friend of very credible member here. He has seen and verified it as real.

Proof is in the pudding. I doubt they made any 440 Canadian versions. More likely, a 440 was an easy swap or the truck was doped up to be an LRE when it really wasnt. But like I said get some details, post the vin ect so when can all discuss. However, my 2cents is they don't exist as he LRE crowd is pretty savvy.

Re: Lil red truck - 05/29/13 11:33 PM

Well one thing is true.....back in the 60's - 70's you could custom order up some wild combo's if you wanted to pay the price.....my cousin ordered a late 60's or early 70's f-100 or 150.....don't quite remember which or what year....with a 427 and car 4-speed and shifter....the only reason I know this to be fact is I picked it up from the dealer for him.....so who knows

He was a sale manager at Wilmington Ford in Mass.

Sure why not. If you don't find it handsome you should at least find it handy.

The first 5 were early 78 d code warlocks converted to lil reds at creative industries. They were sent out as promo rigs for the package why they were 440's who knows but they were I have the vin for the one that was on Kijiji . I believe the other member here may have the rest.

If a decent one comes up I will grab it. Been watching for 1 to surface never say never with a mopar!
