adding cruise control - 03/31/13 07:14 AM
has anyone added cruise control to a 87 and older non cruise control truck? the 87 i built had it all stock. but my 86 doesnt. other then the vacuum assembly under the hood for the carb what else is there? ive been looking for a diagram for wiring. from what ive found it looks like its just the vacuum assembly with a plug in the back for the switch. but im not sure what year the assembly im looking at is. id like to add it without changing a column. possibly run it through a toggle or a push button.

the cruise switch is part of the trun signal lever on the older vehicles so you don't change the column just the switch arm.
Not to highjack your post, but.
My truck came with CC. I'd like to get it working again. What are some of the first things to look at to see why it isn't working? Eveything's there, still hooked up.
what year is your truck? and can i get some pictures of the cruise control under the hood?
Sure, I'll take some tomorrow and post them up. It's a '76 360/auto.

You have the vacuum pod brain under the hood with the speedo in and out hooks to the throttle with a cable.
Then you have the switches on the turn signal and power up with a brake light switch interrupt .
All plugs into the unit under the hood, if the power is getting to the unit should work, wiring can be found in any vintage 70's wiring diagram.
Not hard to add if you have the parts, going to try it on my 57 Willy's with the 4bt diesel, just need a working vacuum pump

Most of the time I've found the transducer (unit on the fender) to be the problem. Also be sure you have plenty of vacuum.

...also good to have a separate vac-storage-canister.
