66 Town Wagon rear brakes question

66 Town Wagon rear brakes question - 01/23/13 09:28 PM

My buddy that scooped up the 66 Town Wagon recently go a hold of me looking for some drums for the rear brakes on the truck. According to what he is being told, the Town Wagon had unique drums. That does not sound right to me. Anybody have any insight that I can share with him?

Everything I've read and seen tell me a 66 Town Wagon would have the same rear end as available in any other Dodge truck, could be a 1/2 ton or a 3/4 ton rear axle though. Weather or not any brake drum is available for a 66 Dodge truck is anybody's guess though. Gene

That's what I thought too.

only odd drum I remember is the keyed axle drums or the 12"x3" drums on heavyduty dodge trucks. I had a set of those on a early 80s truck with 9 1/4 rear axle.

need to know what axle is under there? what drum size is on it now?

if none for a 66 then swap on some later backing plates and drums of a 8 1/4 8 3/4 9 1/4

I suppose since its a 66, it may have a completely different rear axle under it. A 9" Ford would have "special" brake drums for a Dodge truck, as would a Chevy 12 bolt. Who really knows what is under there without looking.
