found my replacement race truck - 01/06/13 07:29 PM

This showed up on craigslist yesterday and today it's mine. Perfect for my 410 stroker, 727 and 8.75 sure grip setup. I got it for $900. Life is good again.

Re: found my repkacement race truck - 01/06/13 08:40 PM

To bad your not closer. Id take the stick parts if your hands. Found a truck local but don't have a warm place to tear it apart to recoup the extra cost to get the parts wanted

Cool. I looked at a similar truck with a stepside bed this weekend. Never did ask for a price, though. Neat trucks that have loads of potential.

Re: found my replacement race truck - 01/07/13 03:38 PM

whats a seaside bed?

nice score stumpy whats the plan? the 4 speed will use the same driveshaft & yoke as the 727.

IIRC you have a floor auto shifter so the colum is good to go as is also.

are you going to lower it any? long shackles? flipflop maybe?

hope you post lots of pics of it as you build it up with your good parts.

Seaside bed= autocorrect fail when posting from a 'smart' phone.

cool, can you put the pre79 (round headlight) grill in it?

Re: found my replacement race truck - 01/07/13 04:19 PM

For the present time I'm going put my drive train in it and finish off the interior. Next year I think it will get repainted the root beer brown it was originally. This one is going to stay stock looking. No lowering or any other exterior changes. Well I will change out that big rear bumper for a lighter one.

nice score! happy birthday stumps!

If you're gonna race it, more weight behind the rear axle is better than less, find places up front to cut weight!

Re: found my replacement race truck - 01/08/13 02:13 PM

I shaved right at 200 pounds of the front off my truck by wieghing what came off and what went back on.

swaperd out power steer to manual steer, power brake to manual brake, ditched the A/C-heater core, ditched the 35 gallon saddle tank, ditch the cast iron intake/WP housing/WP on the 440 engine.

I could drop a few more pounds by removeing the inner fenders, lighten the core support and full interier bench seat, gut the doors and bed.

I got it down to 3840 with me in it so far.

Happy Birthday Richard.

Nice truck. I have a spare cattle guard in the shed if you need it. (just in case one of those guard rails at the track jumps out in front of you again)

Looks like my twin! This one is a '82 Ram, but was a slant six 4speed, plain jane.

I see that one had AC!

Actually that metallic brown is a pretty sharp color! Sable brown I think?

When I can afford it I'm going to paint it back the original color. This one even has the rams head still on the hood.

Hows the new truck coming along? Are you parting your old one?
Posted By: stumpy

Re: found my replacement race truck - 01/25/13 02:15 AM

New truck is up and running great. Only things left to do is swap rearends and install the carpet get the final exhaust work finished. Another week and it will be race and road ready7. I used all the running gear and tires etc. on the new body. I pretty much took anything good off the old truck before I sent it to the crusher.
