Seems like it was 20 years ahead of it's time.

The trucker/CB radio craze seems like it hit its peak as more of a 70s thing--"Convoy", "BJ and the Bear", Every Which Way but Loose, Smokey and the Bandit, etc.

Who had a whip antenna on their trunk lid back in the day???

William Campbell!! He was on Star Trek twice, once as the impish "Trelane" character and again as a Klingon.
