Barrett Jackson Thread - 01/26/24 05:07 PM

Don't see a Barrett Jackson thread so here we go. Prices seemed down on Thursday. Someone stole that 66 Coronet 500 Hemi 4-spd convertible at $100k. A resto mod U-Code 70 Charger RT outsold a stock 70 Charger RT V Code 4spd car. Weird stuff. The cars were the usual BJ junk with a couple nice cars mixed in.

I've had it on in the background, low volume or muted, prices do seem down. Really can't stand watching April Rose or Hoovie, awful host.

I was there yesterday. GOOD cars sold for GOOD money.
Mediocre cars sold for mediocre money.

There is a reason the silver 66 Hemi Coronet sold for that. And I ll stop there , MY opinion will remain my opinion.

IMO, the best deals of the day yesterday were these 2. Both cars were standup cars for that kind of money. And IMO were very well bought, Hopefully they went to people that wanted them and not a dealer.

The following hemi GTX brought a touch more than I thought it would. Nice car but missing the fender tag and no mention of a build sheet . MIght not have been a bad deal for someone just wanted a nice but real hemi car.

There was a 68 Hemi GTX that went for 85ish that looked like a good buy, but I wasn’t there.

BS23V0E122931 has this notice in the description;

Quote
**VIN NOTICE: DEPENDING ON THE STATE OF REGISTRATION OF THE BUYER, THE VEHICLE MAY REQUIRE AN INSPECTION AND BE SUBJECT TO A STATE-ISSUED VIN AND/OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF THAT STATE.**

Rumors about it have mentioned that it has no body numbers. If so, NOT a good deal if it truly has a VIN number issue.

So they were talking with Craig and the sunglasses guy when that green 70 Charger went, what did it go for? I think the next car was a turquoise Mach 1 Muffstain that went for $150K so now everyone who owns a rusty Muff will want that kind of money...LOL..

What did the vanishing point resto mod sell for? The Dennis Collin’s helper built it.

I hope rocket restorations does a video on the sale. They just broke down Mecum. Explained background on some cars and went into how the a bodies did well, but wing cars and some others were down. They have a lot more info that us at home with people there and files on cars. Most interesting was how a Wellborn car carries a premium whe he sells, and that money is lost when it gets resold by anybody else.

She's horrible to listen to. The worst announcer of any of them on any auction.

I was watching it the other day and I cringed as she slammed the front door of a custom suicide door extended cab pickup and it bounced back because the rear door wasn't closed for it to latch too. Steve is definitely missed.

I know a guy (friend of a friend) who owns a '69 Mach 1 fastback. All original car, gold, reflective Mach 1 stripes, with black interior.
Factory Drag Pak car..428 Super Cobra Jet, 4 speed, factory 4.30 gears, rear window slats, Shaker, blackout hood, Magnum wheels..
He has owned it for 40 years...got it from the original owner...it's a beautiful car.

Re: Barrett Jackson Thread - 01/29/24 07:57 PM

Saw a report on all auction sales over the weekend. The takeaway was the best cars that have been the staple of collections, went big. Cars under 100, did terrible. Any car bought in the past 3 years to be flipped on average broken even or lost. Cars bought 4 years ago or before, up 20%. The belief is the people who have the money to buy anything, are focusing more on the "best" pieces and price doesn't really matter.

I know someone that took roughly 20ish cars there. Wasn't a good week for him. His purchases fit more in that 3 year window.

The Hagerty live blog had that breakdown and also pointed out that cars have generally lost money since 2019 when factoring for inflation.

I know someone that bought quite a few cars in the past 18 months and did a dump, didn't go well. Some losing as much as 30%. Timing is also critical. This year there were almost ZERO forward look era cars for sale. A 58 Fury goes across and goes 2x value. Is that because it was one of the only offerings? Who knows, I think so. Would have been a good year to have that era of car as you wouldn't be fighting other models. A friend of mine lost on his Bronco, but it was about the 50th one to sell of the week, that's a lot of buyers gone by the time yours comes up.

Hahahahahaha. Yup. They fixed it alright. Just ask and they’ll tell you.
