GYC returns tonight

GYC returns tonight - 01/19/24 05:05 PM

New season starts tonight. The show is obviously on the back burner at Motor Trend with the Friday night timeslot and a total lack of promotion from the network. Is Mark bartering for the airing of his own show?

Re: GYC returns tonight - 01/19/24 07:23 PM

Mark produces his own show not Motortrend so he takes on all the cost of doing the actual show. Much higher renewal rate on shows like that because MT basically has no risk and no cost outlay to make it. GYC just charges for them to run the show but he keeps all the rights.

Even the new and improved Mark is like finger nails on a chalkboard to me.

Re: GYC returns tonight - 01/19/24 09:37 PM

All of his horsing around, acting like Rocky and talking down to people is annoying. I just watch to see the cars and to try and learn a little bit, or maybe a better way to do something that I've done for 40 years. Will is a good painter, and I enjoy the technical stuff he shares from time to time. Dave Rea was the best person that has ever been on the show, but has been gone for a few years. I watch him on You Tube though. yellow wrench primer up

When his show comes on, I shut the TV off. The whole thing is just way, way too hard to stomach.

Mt needs to assess their programming, Tired of seeing Kindig(egyption beard) and that jackass with the hat all the time. Iron Resurrection is ok but too much cheby crap. If they cut out all the nonsense on GYC it would be easier to watch. I watched one where there was nothing but nonsense and nothing about the cars. tsk

What I hate about all these shows the supposedly super tight deadlines, but they always have time for some of field trip to a ball game, go carting, museum, etc. Does anyone really care where they go? We watch car shows for the cars. Get back to work on the cars......

Well, I sat through the new episode of GYC- so you won't have to laugh2
Basically nothing of value was shown, unless you want velvet inserts in your seats.
I'd like to have that time back, especially after seeing how tasteless and ugly the daughter had the crew make her Challenger.

Re: GYC returns tonight - 01/20/24 03:47 PM

I usually record it and fast forward through it and stop if I see anything interesting, nothing very interesting last night. The episodes at the Brothers Museum and The episodes with Tony are good, I really liked the one about the Reynolds Cuda and the Rapid Transit Duster. I can usually see most of what I want in about 10 min,.
can’t stand the soap opera, cartoon segment, and fake dialogue; plus last season the stuff with the painters son on it was awful to watch.

Heck yes too much Kindig and dumbazz "Kev Dog" sick with his 45 year old man wannabe hip hop look. I like Texas Metal despite not liking the builds. So much talent.

I'll watch GYC out of my desperation to see Mopars.

Ian Rousseau

Full Custom Garage.

No drama, no BS, no idiocy.

Not all of his builds are what I'd do or want, but he has talent, real talent.

I liked Iron Resurrection for a while, but it has gotten kind of redundant of late. Joe is talented with design and striping. Shorty was an awesome painter while he was there. They've long since worn out the comedy of scaring Pampa with snakes and firecrackers though. Seems like anymore, the best part of the show is Amanda's tig ol bitties! (.)(.) drool

I like GYC. The only thing annoying thing about Mark is a lot of his joking around material is old and repetitive.
The fantom works guy had an attitude that was annoying too but it was an interesting show to watch.
Bitchin Rides is the show I can't stand watching.

I agree with all. I still watch re-runs of Fantom Works. I hope Wayne Carini is coming back too. Bill on Texas Metal use to annoy me just based on appearance lol, but then I gave him more of a chance and he seems really cool, a good family guy, and zero b.s. drama! I like him now and while I really don't like the typical build of his (tahoe or silverado with humongous wheels, etc.) I'm so impressed with their talents.

Full Custom Garage, YES! Forgot about that one. I like the "inspectors". I also like Desert Rat Rods, Not much into rat rods but interesting to watch. The first season of Jay Leno's garage was decent. Didn't like the later ones to much because he kept bringing on "celebrities". Too much time was wasted on them rather than the cars.

I'm thinking/hoping that grancuda meant that things went down hill after Dave Rea left. I think that Daren was less watchable than anyone else on the show, but of course that is just my opinion. I stopped watching after Dave left because I felt the portions of the show that were most informative were the ones featuring him.

Watched some of it for the first time about a month ago on youtube. No different than most "altered reality" TV shows with fake deadlines, fake drama, lack of info, etc., etc. down

I'd rather watch Derik on Vise Grip Garage pull a car out of the woods, throw a battery in, pour some gas in the carb, get it running, stop at 22 parts stores over 600 miles on his way home with it & then paint it for $29.99 like Earl Schieb. laugh2

Derek is pretty fun to watch! And he is knowledgeable, and doesn't seem to be a smartass.
I also like watching Roadkill Garage, but for quite awhile now, it's turned into Frieburger, and Dulchich
building a never ending supply of David's own personal project cars. As in:

1- F-Rod
2- Crop Duster
3- 56 Chevy
4- Jeep (s)...etc..etc..

The vice grips guy IIRC ran drag week put wheels on his car with the wrong lug nuts. Tried explain that it was something else that caused the wheel to fall off, eat the studs and 1/4 panel.

Nah, man, put the right lugs on and the wheel likely stays firmly attached.

Yes! Remaking his first car shows he's a car guy and one of the reasons I wrote I'd actually like to hang out with him. I bet he has funny stories from his youth, as many of us do! His antics are for TV.

Nope, I don’t mean Dave, the show started out entertaining with Mopar content as the background for various antics.
I don’t care for watching step by step of how to assemble stuff, it’s boring. I don’t care about chalk marks & date codes. Watching Dave or anyone else assemble a 70 Charger bumper assembly or put a fastback 67-69 Barracuda interior together is as exciting as watching paint dry. Watching Mark quiz his unknowable daughter about vins & data plates is ridiculous, I’ve got a redbook & GG white books, I don’t need to hear mark spew that info. It used to be entertaining & it isn’t now.

Re: GYC returns tonight - 01/24/24 05:03 AM

There are shows on YouTube where the guys just weld up the new panels etc and no bs. It can be hard to follow a build though. People without a crew have spaces in releases so works best to watch one a few years old so it’s all there.

I have MT and will keep it, but I’m getting sick of the shop builds on roadkill. Original concept was to fire something up and road trip it as close to dead as possible. Now cars get whole new mechanicals out on every inch of the car before they hit the road. That was the roadkill garage concept and it meets expectations, but not the original show.
Posted By: 5thAve

Re: GYC returns tonight - 01/24/24 05:59 AM

I don't see vice grip garage being any better then graveyard cars. His oddball phrases and antics are funny the first few times but is more repetitive then what Mark does. I used to watch him but the driving junk cross country and half ass repairs gets old over time. Still catch it when I'm bored.

Graveyard cars youtube uploads are more annoying then the show is on TV. They cut out a lot of the good stuff and you get excited to see they've uploaded a new episode only to find they just edited and repackaged episodes from a Month or so ago and theres no order to it either. Theyd be better off uploading random behind the scene stuff then videos that have been recycled over and over. At least it was nice to watch some new stuff on YouTube after not getting it on TV for a while.

Yeah the pandemic hair was a bit strange but a lot of people were doing that and his new look is creepy for sure. In a way he doesn't add much to the show it's more interesting to see what his guys are doing and working on. Before the show stsrted he used to write a newspaper colum about various classic car related things that was usually interesting to read.

Even the shop builds, are thrown together junk, with stuff the guys have laying around. Most car guys have plenty of extra junk sitting around, that can be reused. I have no problem with them improving the cars they already have. It's to show that once the car is driving, it can be upgraded over time, and make it better, and better. I've been to car shows, that the owner got it barely running 20 years ago, and then just gave up, and the car hasn't changed since then. Personally, I like to make improvements every year.

I hesitate to say this......but if you like custom cars and fabrication. Check out Bad Chads you tube vids. Nothing like the show that was on a few years ago, other than he does use too much "rock guard"

I know he has his haters and some of his stuff can appear to be rough but he is building a 50 Ford 2 door right now that I would call an extreme custom. Not much of it is to my taste but the top chop was very interesting, and I could not believe how quickly he did it.. I would also suggest watching him build the "tanker". Very cool. He is also building a replica Bugatti from nothing. The guys uses very little more than an angle grinder and a mig welder.

Couple words of advice if you decide to watch some of it. They are about an hour long, I find myself fast forwarding through a lot of the angle grinding as once I watch about 30 seconds of that I "got it" and can move to the next operation lol

As an aside, I don't know the whole story, but he spent time at Gene Winfields shop learning how they did customs back in the day.

Re: GYC returns tonight - 02/04/24 04:03 AM

Latest episode I watched, features two Cuda's. One is a '70 440+6 FC7 with white interior, the car looks like it
was dragged out of a swamp. They were tearing down the 440, which was a complete mess, and looked awful.
The other was iirc, a '70 Sassy Grass 383 4spd? That car was getting new sheet metal welded onto it.
Point is, in this episode...Mark did the entire episode, without any kind of shenanigans.
He was straight forward, in presenting each vehicle, and trying to "teach" viewers about the cars.
It was refreshing to see him, not acting up, or doing anything goofy...(except in the intro, acting as a used car salesman) twocents

I agree. One of the better episodes. I hope this will be the new format going forward.

Claiming the 440-6 FC7 was worth $60,000 as is was plenty goofy.

Yes, maybe $25,000. Even still, way out of my league for something that needs over $100,000 put into it.

Agree, that episode was WAY better than the usual silliness.

That crusty 440 is the worst-looking engine I've ever seen - I'd have worn gloves & a respirator during the teardown.

The used-car bit needed a CGI lightning strike at the end for a good laugh.

I believe Mark is eventually going to sell that 440+6 Cuda, as part of his 'Graveyard Motors' used car lot.
I'm curious to see how that 440 #'s block turns out, after going to a machine shop. Hope it can be saved.

The guys would be in the shop checking on when parts were going to arrive, then a guy would come in and start talking about when the Pony Express used to bring mail to his house, the rest of the show would be a discussion on horses

At the end of the show he said it could be saved but needed at least 1 sleeve.

Yup, I do remember he said that, but he is not a machinist. He might be correct, but
let's see what the machine shop has to say, and what the verdict is.

If you ever worked in a Body Shop, you'd know they are filled with "characters". I actually like when he tells stories about him and Doug when they were younger.

Yes, I noticed the same....much less goofiness. BUT, wasn't that the episode in which is daughter went to dealership for new (to her) car? Geez, not interested!

Me too! They remind me of myself and friends.
