Thats great. 27 gallons of fuel to aid in the self extinguishing of the lithium battery. whistling

I wonder what the home insurance policies might start to say about parking that indoors?

Using a large V6 as the generator is a non starter. It should have been a 2 or 3 cylinder.

I could actually see just a few situations it might be helpful since it can power a home the article says. For me it would be more like a job site or cabin and it says its got 600hp 600tq.

But outwardly it just sounds goofy for most. It almost seems they are just trying to stay in the race or appease the ones who give out bailout cash when needed.

The youtube expert UT... (more like a UTI) has a vid saying how stupid it is (the new truck) but has a vid just before that saying how the engineers were so smart and should not be questioned... another click bait king. catfight

We are living in odd times.

You didn't read the article.

For the traditional Ram 1500 models, the biggest change is the company is dropping its well-known Hemi V-8. Replacing the current 5.7-liter Hemi engine offered in the truck will be a twin-turbocharged, inline-six-cylinder engine called the Hurricane.

It likely needs a little more power than that since it has a large enough generator to charge the battery and move the truck. But you are right it is probably overkill. It also likely keeps cost down using an existing power plant, and the 3.6 is probably pretty clean running fixed RPM.

It's the 2025 model year that gets the ICE & Battery power not 2024, and it's 2025 that no longer has a Hemi available.

Thread title says 2024.

My God, what a service nightmare!

Many service departments cannot solve simpler current electrical issues than are likely to come up with this new, more complicated combo. I wish the new owner's luck. I won't even think about being one of first guinea pigs.

I'll keep my 2014 Ram 5.7 as long as remotely possible. Stored in the winters so rust won't be an issue.

Talk about jamming as much technology as possible into a vehicle.

Good luck...

Obviously you don’t understand sarcasm! The key words in my post were “should be” . Yes I did read the article and fully understood it.

It is not mentioned but if the proper connectors were provided this truck would have the ability to easily work as a standby generator for an entire home or small business.

While I have no plans to purchase an EV if I was going to get one this would, in my opinion be the ideal setup.

They probably could have gotten by with a smaller engine but I am guessing this was the lowest cost option.

Good for those that may be interested but I will have my current Ram 1500 until I`m dead so I`m not really interested in any of the new vehicles being offered.

Now I can see why a buddy of mine retired from Chrysler a couple years ago. He said he wanted NO PART of the future engineering developments (EV stuff) that was coming down the pike that he was going to have to be a part of. I don't blame him.

They(all the auto manufactures) need to design something that doesn't look like a turd with wheels. Looks first, Power train second.

Good grief! confused Replacing the Hemi with a straight 6? Didn't they learn anything from Fords Ecoboost fiasco? I'm just done buying new trucks. I used to buy a new truck every 2 years, but my 2017 is the last. I don't like the ridiculous "technology".
