per my office calendar, Veterans day is to be "obserevd" on today the 10th, but is actually tomorrow. Googling the "OFFICIAL" day leads to conflicting information with some businesses and government offices being closed today wink beer
Semper Fi and happy Veterans day to all that served regardless of which service branch 🍻❤

Thank you for your service and sacrifice to all my veteran friends on our great forum here and beyond! You truly are the ones that keep our country free. While not a veteran myself, my dad was in the army so I truly do appreciate each and every one of you!

Went to the center of town tonight for the annual luminary display put on by the lions club. It keeps getting bigger and bigger, with this one being the biggest I seen yet.

Was this in Berlin? My buddy and OCS bunk mate when we were in the CT National Guard lived in Berlin and was a Berlin police officer at one time. He lived in Berlin, but both of us were born in New Britain. He did not pass while serving his country, but did pass while serving as a police officer. RIP Pete.

Re: Happy Veterans Day - 11/12/23 11:23 AM

While driving around,
I sometimes see a star on the outside wall of a house.

Sometimes the star is painted Gold,
which I understand as
“a Gold Star family lives here
we lost a child who died defending the USA”

But I see other colored stars.

Anyone know why their neighbors say why they have a non-gold star?

A Google search brings this up:

quote
Nowadays, some homeowners paint their stars,
as certain colors are believed to represent various meanings.
According to metalbarnstars.com,
black means protection,
blue means protection, peace, and calmness,
brown means earth and friendship,
green means growth and fertility,
orange means success in career,
red means emotion, passion, and creativity,
violet alludes to something sacred,
white represents the power of the moon,
and yellow means health.
Now ya know!
end quote
