Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/23/2308:59 PM
I as other youngsters way back when, of phila/south jersey fans of fright ,loved horror movies and of course still do!We grew up with Dr.Shock for years and he was great!Of cours! And of course Dr.Shocks been gone for years God Bless him And thinking of his daughter Bubbles. We watch Svengoolie at times but he's certainly no Dr.shock !Who's been you're favorite horror host over the years or now?
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/23/2309:12 PM
Back in the day, I never missed The Ghoul and Sir Graves Ghastly. Now my only option is Svengoolie. A few years back I would watch Wolfman Mac but he went off the air here. The Ghoul was my favorite.
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/23/2311:36 PM
growing up in the suburbs east of Cleveland Ohio we had: GHOULARDI until '66 (too young for his show) followed by HOOLIHAN & BIG CHUCK thru the '70s + (CBS 8 late night Friday) SUPERHOST in the '70s + (WUAB 43 Saturday afternoons) the GHOUL in the '70s (WKBF 61 late night Saturday)

Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/24/2312:59 AM
We had Elvira and Svengoolie. The Rich Koz took over as Son of Svengoolie. He's been doing it so ling they just let him be Svengoolie. I am not a huge fan of his extended show now. Most of the space filler is ignorant.
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/24/2312:21 PM

The Elvira and also Rhonda Shear stuff was great as well!
Rhonda Shear did low budget "B" movies. But she was fun to watch on"Up all night". She gained quite a few pounds since those days. Elvira still looks good.

I remember Ghoulardi (EIrnie Anderson) very well.Friday night at 11.He was just crazy funny. He had a run in with a news woman named Dorthy Fuildheim from channel 5 and it was all over for him.Last I heard was he did television in California.Maybe Rocky will chime in,I'm sure he remembers him.

From the lannd of Cleve myself, just missed Ghoulardi, but did grow up with Big Chuck and Little John, Elvira, and the Ghoul. Superhost wasn't really late night, more Saturday afternoon.
I used to like Mystery Science Theater..
We haven't seen much of recent movies, basically all awful now. Mostly just startling moments and blood, nothing like old stuff that made one think. The shower scene in Psycho is well known, you never actually saw a stabbing, just a knife in the air and blood in the drain.

Growing up in Detroit in the early '70's...my siblings and I watched The Ghoul... (Channel 20) and of course, the one and only Sir Graves Ghastly! (Channel 2) His skits with the singing face on his chin upside down ( the GLOB)....would always freak me out as a kid.. He always showed pictures and drawings, of monsters that kids would mail in to the studio. HAPPY HAUNTING!
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/25/2309:45 PM
Another one I remember vaguely from when I was a kid was a guy called Morgus. All I remember was him wearing a lab coat and having a skull he talked to that always said "yes master" or something like that. Does anyone else remember hm?

What no mention of Sir Hitchcock? 😱
Does he really qualify as a host though?
I'm quite partial to his movies.
Join the hunt. Ask around your town and circle of friends if anyone has some old movie reels.
Hitchcock’s very first movie titled “The Mountain Eagle” is missing.
Many copies of this movie were mailed from theatre to theatre in the USA. In those days if a movie was not a hit, the last movie house to show it was told “It is not worth the shipping cost to send it back to Hollywood CA so you can keep it or throw it away.”
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/27/2303:13 AM
I forgot about Count Scary! This was a character made up by Detroit area radio disc jockey (WOMC) Tom Ryan. He hosted horror movies from the early 80's until the 1990's. Him and the Ghoul teamed up in the mid 90's for a TV show special. "OOOoohhh That's SCARY!!!!!". Loved his campy comedy!
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 09/27/2304:23 AM

I forgot about Count Scary too. I actually have the Count Scary/Ghoul show featuring Night of the Living Dead recorded on VHS. I don't think I've watched it since I recorded it.

I remember him well. After Detroit, he moved and became Morgus the Magnificent at the New Orleans local station. He and his side kicks, Chopsley and Eric the skull, hosts the “B” Sci-Fy movies on Saturday nights. The actor’s name was Sid Noel. Chopsley was a motorcycle cop and always wore a hood with his outfit. In between the movie, they were always cooking up some scientific tomfoolery, which would always go south by the end of the show. Fond memories from my childhood. Ron

And speaking of Alfred Hitchcock I used to think of him as a horror genius until I heard of Tipi Hedrin God bless her still alive at 93 yo.And her own harrowing experience where Alfred Hitchcock made her shoot for 5 days in a upstairs filled with real seagulls ,crows etc..She was attacked by these birds that all wound up and tossed in the room so some of the blood scene's in those shots may have been real!

Indianapolis viewing area had a legend for decades. Whenever we traveled and caufsome local channel scary movie host, they were always lame and could be.
None of these hacks could hold a candle to Sammy Terry. ( a play on cemetery).
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 10/21/2312:59 AM
Vincent? There's only one Vincent for horror movies.
Masque of the RedDeath, Hound of the Baskerville, abominable Dr Phibes and the list goes on. Heck even the Scooby-Doo episode was fun. Not to mention his voice over in Thriller.
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 11/05/2312:42 AM
Not so much a host but just the intro..pretty scary for early 70's claymation and young kids...anyone growing up in the tri-state area should remember this...turn your speakers on...Chiller
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 11/05/2310:41 AM
An intro to Fright night in black and white popped up on my phone, not the movie.Showed different movie monsters faces which eventually turned into a skull.

He added 1/2 hour to the show last year so he "could air longer movies". So far it's just been a lot of filler crap. I'm good with Gwengooli, the others not so much.
Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 01/27/2406:43 PM

Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 01/30/2412:28 AM
I believe it all started with Ernie Anderson as Ghoulardi on CH 8 (CBS) in Cleveland. I saw a video about him. In the early 60's Ch 8 (CBS) didn't have any late night programming like the Tonight Show and they would sign off the air after the news. Someone at Ch 8 scored a deal on some B rated B/W horror films. Ernie was selected to put together some kind of program around these films for after the news on Friday night. Ernie asked what his budget was and they laughed. He had zero dollars since Management saw this a a gamble. Ernie was a very talented “voice over” guy at Ch 8.
Ernie created the Ghoulardi character and did voice overs during the films to make things interesting. He had to take the furniture from the Ch 8 lobby to use as props for the set. It was crazy. By the mid 60's Ghoulardi was making good ratings and he opened the studio up to a small audience. Among the early audience regulars was a guy name Ron Sweed (wearing a gorilla suit). Ron would eventually end up on Ernie's staff.
Ernie ended up following his friend Tim Conway, who also worked at Ch 8 in the early 60's, to the West Coast. Tim went to the Carol Burnett show and Ernie did voice over work and would eventually be hired by ABC as their voice of the network during the 80's.
Channel 8 replaced Ghoulardi creating the Hoolahan and Big Chuck show. They did comedy skits etc. One of them was Mission: Ridiculous. I'm watching Mission: Impossible reruns as I write this.
Ron Sweed would revive the Ghoulardi character as The Ghoul and get a show on Cleveland's Ch 61. Ernie gave Ron his permission to clone his character. The Ghoul eventually moved to Detroit.
Drew Carey was often seen in a Ghoulardi shirt on his TV show.

Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 02/15/2412:16 PM
Couldn't watch it you need Joe Bob or Shudder station ,we pay enough now with comcast,we're not paying for extra stations. we also have Netflix,so if we want something we can just look for it. I watched the monster that challenged the world pretty cool except the real life snail scenes showing thier teeth Now that's a real horror show!My wife hates snails so she didn't watch the movie. The monster looked pretty good.Itll be the Bride of Frankenstein.

Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 03/15/2402:05 PM
In my area, we didn't have a horror host. We did have the after the 10:00 news, late night horror show on Friday nights called Shock Theatre, but it wasn't hosted. It wasn't even the original '50s era monster movie series but just some cheesy titles they posted on screen before and after commercial breaks.
Casandra Peterson grew up here in town where I live. Her parents owned a huge costume rental store that was active from the mid '60s until the early '90s. She left the area in the late '60s to pursue her acting career. She occasionally drops back in to visit friends, but not frequently.

Re: Who was you're Horror host 4 movies then/now? - 04/25/2402:46 PM
not polish food, but often times when the old man would watch Chiller Theater ["Chilly Billy Cardilly", host] with us, he would make a trip to one of the local bars that a specialty brat, cooked in pure beer [no water ever !] served with a specialty [secret] sauce, and bring home a batch of those to enjoy while we watched those cool old black-n-whites. YUM !
