FedEx does it again - Update

FedEx does it again - Update - 08/17/23 01:24 PM

I order a couple storage shelves. Seller uses FedEx. Tracking number says that it will arrive on the 17th. Then I get an update that it will be early on the 16th. Then I get an update that it's back to the 17th. So, this morning I get a note that they tried to deliver at 7:55 AM and since no one was home, delivery will now be the 18th. So I call FedEx, tell them that we are home and if the truck is still in town we can take delivery. Agent says the truck is not in town and that no delivery was attempted today but they will deliver tomorrow. ???? I'm sure you've seen me say I hate FedEx.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/17/23 02:10 PM

Haven't had that issue, but stuff I buy on Ebay lately gets a follow-up notice from them about "early delivery".
That early date is NEVER the day it actually shows up - maybe 6 times now - but the original window of time is usually right.
Had one guy who took 5 days to ship the item, but I can't blame the delivery service.

The only thing worse is the US Postal service!

I kicked FedEx out of our business a couple of years ago and haven't missed them once.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/17/23 03:21 PM

went to ship a package, took it directly to them to get a quote. next day, brought the same package in and went from $127 to $173 the next day? I was not happy. I had to repackage the product into a smallerbox to get it cheap to the original quote. Been happy with them over UPS, but they seem to be getting too pricy to ship anymore.

Even though you have no control if someone else is shipping something to you, the wife has been using https://www.pirateship.com/ to ship packages and it's waaay cheaper to ship even though they're using the same shippers (USPS, Fedex, UPS, etc)

You're still at their mercy as far as the quality of the shipping, but the price is always cheaper.

The wife has been waiting for a package for about 3 weeks from the post office.
It was shipped from California and was supposed to come to Missouri, but it went to Puerto Rico for some reason based on the tracking.
We have a guess as to why, but won't know sure till it arrives.
Our zip code is 63084 and Puerto Rico's 03084.
If a scanner read the first number wrong that would explain the detour.
Until it arrives we don't know if the label is hand written or printed.
The woman who shipped it kinda acts like it's not her problem "I shipped it" is what she says.
She doesn't seem to get that if it gets lost only she can initiate anything with the post office since she's the shipper/postal customer.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/17/23 07:23 PM

FedEx: When it absolutely, positively, has to be there within maybe 2 to 4 days of the original estimated delivery date... assuming the roads aren't too crappy due to the weather... and driver doesn't call in sick

That said, it's funny that I just received an on-time FedEx delivery in the middle of typing that sentence above laugh2

I had a package that made it within 20 miles of here then inexplicably got sent more than 500 miles away then sent to yet another city and finally back to the same place that misdirected it in the first place. Finally did get here almost a week late.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/17/23 09:53 PM

Is it just FedEx or shippers in general because IMO the newer upcoming workforce has so much less work ethic. I have packages from UPS also that look like someone played soccer with them. It just seems to be a deterioration of Customer Service and concern for doing a good job.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/17/23 10:07 PM

UPS, USPS, and especially FedX around here don't care if anyone is home. Sometimes FedX even stops the truck before leaving our stuff in plain site of the road in the weather

I had been shipping with FedEx Ground since 2002 until late December last year. I finally had enough of them! Final straw with them was they went to offshore customer service, & if your payment to them was after the due date AT ALL, they would lock your account. So you call FedEx collections & you get someone from the Phillipines that wants payment on a credit card right up to the latest shipment or you can pound sand. That was it for me. Not to mention short shipments that customers never received product but FedEx shows the stuff was delivered. Didn't matter if the customers had front porch cameras that proved otherwise. And their rates skyrocketed with NO consistency at all. I could ship same items to the same person two weeks apart, & one of the shipments might be $10.00 difference. FedEx Ground drivers are contract & many of them are about the same caliber as Amazon drivers - like NOT dedicated or professional!

SO, I got in touch with my local UPS rep through my UPS driver, & she has been fantastic to work with. So far, my shipping rates have dropped at least 35% & I have had zero issues. UPS drivers work FOR UPS - they are not contract - they are lifers & they seem to be a whole 'nother kind of employee. From what I've seen so far, UPS is the way to go 100%. Post office - what a joke. Some CRAZY employees over the last few years & getting worse.

It should be only when the shipper has "Signature Required" that they won't leave it if nobody is home.

Worked at UPS years ago loading/unloading trailers, also some sorting.
Conveyor belts "couldn't" stop only in emergency, so jammed boxes got kicked/punched/etc to free up jams.
Amazing what would come down belts: bolts/candy/etc from broken boxes.
Large heavy boxes would crush smaller fragile boxes.
Torn stuff was tossed below belts for later cleanup.
A single jam someplace would "freeze up" many stations.
When the Shift started, sorting/loading, they didn't want it stopped until trucks loaded or unloaded.
Only saw what happened on my shift & they were active 24/7.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/19/23 02:44 AM

I received a pair of Stock reproduction corvette side pipes that were literally just banded together with a shipping label slapped on them. They were
severely BENT as though they were trying to navigate a corner on a conveyor and got JAMMED. I can tell you they did some damage to the conveyor and anything nearby. I had to laugh a bit as i can only imagine what the maintenance guy had to say and what he might have done to the shipping person LMAO
pic attached for your imagination wink

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/20/23 12:26 PM

Amazon in year 2018 started up a division “Amazon Shipping” to compete with FedEx and UPS, but closed it as a 3rd party delivery service during the Pandemic because they needed all of its capacity for their direct customers.

Sunday Wall Street Journal article on page B9 is titled “Amazon Restarts Unit That Competes with UPS, FedEx”

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/22/23 03:42 PM

Yesterday I get a call from a real live person at the FedEx hub in Bismarck. She inquires about my shipment, says it is at the hub, and the paperwork is somewhat confusing, what do I want them to do? The shipment is two metal shelves that weigh 150# each and are 6' long. I thank her for calling and tell her that if the delivery driver could call me just before he delivers, we could load the shipment from the FedEx truck to my pickup and save everyone's back. She said no problem, she'll leave a note for the driver. Well, I get up this morning, check my emails and lo and behold, there is one from FedEx that my packages were already delivered. confused So I look outside and sure enough, FedEx already dropped them off AND leaned them up against the garage door. So if I hadn't checked and opened the door, the packages would have fallen in and take out the rear window in Momma's Subaru.

Just when you think there is a ray of hope...........

Re: FedEx does it again - Update - 08/23/23 01:50 AM

Of course, as usual...

Hi, RS. Your package from SO is delayed due to our normal incompetence.

SCHEDULED DELIVERY: Pending

Initially expected: Friday 08/25/2023

INCOMPETENCE DELAY

TRACKING NUMBER: what's that?

FROM: SO

TO: TX, US, 76034, hells bells, we don't go there, too friggin' hot

SHIP DATE: Mon 8/21/2023 03:51 PM

DELIVERY LOCATION: IRVING, TX

Wondering when a package will arrive? Always when it comes via fedup

Last time somebody used F'eduped, the package was stuck in Cisco, Texas, on it's way from California, for two days, where they have no terminal, next report it's in Chicago, and takes another four days to get here.

Re: FedEx does it again - 08/23/23 11:05 AM

It is all bad and frustrating.

Believe me, it is worse shipping on railroads.

It is even worse shipping by railroad across national borders.

Do not ever ship a train of 90 privately owned railcars into Mexico.

F'edup has been consistently bad here. I've had a snafu with UPS, several with USPS being the worst case. One package got misdirected for 6 weeks, I had the local postmaster helping me as they can see things we can't. Another package got shipped from Atlanta, tracking showed the initial scan, was never scanned again, after two months of lost status, it was never found. I suspect it was stolen at that P.O. eBay opened and closed a case almost immediately as the seller couldn't show a delivery confirmation.

We have a sign on the front door asking that deliveries be taken to a side door about 30' away as it's near my office and less visible from the street. USPS, UPS, Amazon almost always comply, F'edup NEVER has.

Haven't had an issue with Fed ex yet (knock on wood) UPS a few but I finally got in touch with a lady at the local hub, which is almost impossible to do without a swat team. After 3 incidents/callsI haven't had any more 🙏. USPS is like going to a Casino twocents

Re: FedEx does it again - Update - 08/23/23 05:45 PM

In the interest of equal time...above and beyond the call...

FWIW, several years ago a co-workers wife stepped out the front door to get the paper in the dark, accidentally while barefoot she stepped perfectly on the copper heads head with her heel and killed it. Lucky lady.
