Currently 80 degrees, forecast high of 101, heat index of 104, sweater weather, burr... laugh2

Seriously, with humidity down to 28%, it's quite a relief from normal here.

I know, I miss the 1960's and '70's when our prevailing wind was out of the SW and mornings would be relatively cool and dry. By the '80's the prevailing wind changed to the SE and we started getting Houston (well, almost) levels of humidity. Instead of morning lows in the high 60's and low '70's, 80 to 85 degrees with suffocating levels of humidity became common. And the friggin' ice storms...at least it's not Phoenix... ozbbq ...yet. nervous

Phoenix is great!! For the most part it's a dry heat. Once the monsoons kick in, it gets humid. We have had almost a month straight of daytime highs above 110. A little warm, but most people have A/C to escape to.

Shoot, my folks live in Tucson and a swamp cooler works fine, except for monsoon season, lol.

Up here in the north west corner of IL, we started the today (@ 2:00 am) with a hard rain at 77 degrees. The rain cooled the temp down to the over night low of 72. At 8:00 am it was already 82, and the humidity was at 97%. The heat index was already in the mid 90s. The heat index was near 110 all day. The current temp is 89 but the heat index is suppose to stay above 95 until after 9 pm. Says is suppose to be a low of 68, with a 90% chance of rain all evening.

Been pretty much this way all week here, suppose to cool down into the mid 80s for tomorrow, and then the low 80s Sunday before the heat and humidity returns on Tues. We are not used to this stuff, don't you feel sorry for us? whistling I've left my AC 2 times today, for about 45 minutes each time, that was plenty long enough. We hare having a family reunion tomorrow at our local park. Its going to be fun (the shelter house we rented has AC).

Over all, its really been a decent summer, weather wise. Lots of temp swings this year, a few days hot (90 degree range), then a few days cool (high 60s/low 70s for the days high temps). Been pretty dry most of the spring and summer.

We seem to heading into an “El Nino” or alternatively “Southern Oscillation” world weather pattern
that may resemble the 1930s “Dust Bowl” period in the USA.

The media is luridly playing this up
but this cycle has happened repeatedly in the past even before humans started using coal, oil and methane.

Unfortunately this can cause crop failures, famine and turmoil - especially in India.

The story about how a boomerang throwing, eccentric math teacher
who originally knew nothing about weather forecasting
was convinced to move from his easy job in England
to harsh conditions in India
to find a way to “forecast famines” before they happened
is a history chapter that “weather geeks” will enjoy:

The above it a hint, but there is a whole chapter in a good weather history book about this:

Weather, Climate, and the Geographical Imagination

Place i used to work at i had a digital thermometer in my area. A few days in July it would go up to 97. It got so hot that the alarm system would trigger from the heat/fire sensors. All day in that heat takes it's toll and you don't have any energy to do anything. I never experienced "dry heat" but there was a discussion on the radio i listened to. A guy moved from the Phily/Jersey area to Phoenix and he said he would never want to go back to high heat and humidity.

Currently the Weather Channel says the temperature is 94* here with 48% humidity and a heat index of 102*.
But, my digital thermometer, with the remote sensor that is always shaded, says the temperature is 101*.

LOL, that's insane. I don't get into my pool until it's over 80 degrees!! Anything below that, and I heat up in the sauna first.
