Site called Title and Lien checks ????

Anyone ever heard of this.

Someone interested in my car wants me to put my vin number in it looking for recalls, service bullitins etc etc .
For a 1966 model,,,,,,,,sounds like BS to me

I've heard of scams whose goal is for you to buy a worthless report from them, which includes providing your credit card info. This might be one of those.

For a '66? That ship has sailed.

Why doesn't the buyer do that?

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't do that.
Too fishy...doesn't pass the smell test.
Too many rackets out there to take a chance on some random shtuff like that.

Its an Ontario Canada number which is not too out of the ordinary around here .
Thought maybe some Canadian version of a Carfax or something so I gave him benefit of the doubt 'for a few minutes'. But the more he spoke ,,,the worst it got
But .....when I asked where he was ....he replied with a town and was 2 hours away.." He was ready to buy and had cash " but wasn't making the drive until I had the so called TLC report.

But the town is actually 30 minutes tops

These scammers are getting creative that's for sure.

He is now blocked.

A request like that is an immediate disqualifier, especially on a vintage car.
Gut instincts are usually accurate.
Maybe share the scammer's info, to put him out of business ?

Even if it is half legit its two weeks old and they charge 3x what the other sites that do the same.

Carfax only goes back to 1981, Just an FYI.

It was a text from phone number 403-472-9309 said his name was Luke ( yea right ) Which I believe is an Ontario Canada number. But said his location was Bowie Arizona, which is about 30 to 45 minutes east of me at the most.

He wanted me to buy a history report off that site and I refused. Told him I had clean / clear title in my name. And no such report exists for a car over 50 years old. My scam meter went off almost immediately. And never got any better

Since most all the info is available online, why not tell them to pay and run the report.

Of course your being hustled... That domain was just created and go figure part is based out of Canada.

This Gov. site is good and also the services at the bottom.

It can find some stuff going way back and does all the other checks as well for like $9

I remember this scam going on four or five years ago. After word spread it disappeared. maybe someone thought it was gone long enough nobody would remember it.

When you say "WAY BACK" how far is that?
Would it be useful for trying to find a lost vehicle?
Does it tell you any up to date info?

I was able to find info on one of my cars back to 1991 so thats a bit. Yes it goes by vin. This link is one site thats approved and linked on the DOJ/GOV site and lets you enter a vin and it will tell you if it does have any records and how many before you spend your $9.95. The one thing I like about it is it also covers legacy titles which we know some states are no title states but yet some cars still have titles floating around. Ive always wondered if one bought a car in a no tittle state then at some point someone pops up with a old title?

As for a lost vehicle it can tell you what state it was that held the last title transaction.
Its up to date as for the last sale if the title was run through vs a skip title.

Florida has this available for free, check your tax collector site, maybe something there
