2009 challenger timing chain recall?

So I got a friend with an 09 challenger R/T and the timing chain is broken, I can see the chain is not on the gear thru the cam sensor hole and it spins over real fast like a bunch of bent valves. As best I can tell from mopar.com is the chains were replaced but yet here we are. It only has 101,000 miles or so, is there any chance Dodge will do anything about this or is he AOL?

Any service writers or anything can give any advice?

Are you able to run a carfax and get the dealer name that did the work and when? I'd start there.

Is it an auto or stick? IIRC, the recall was auto only. My 6 speed SRT-8 was not covered.

If he is the original owner, 2009 Challengers had a lifetime power train warranty.

IF he had the 5 year inspections performed. Many reports of troubles even if the inspections were performed.

I had a '12 rt that threw a few codes that correlated to timing chain replacement. My car was at 26k miles when it did this, and I was surprised to see it was an incredibly common occurrence. Theres even an article on Hotrod.com about it. Anyways, you have to go to chryslers recall web site and type in the vin number in the designated area. I thought all RTs were covered, they're not. Its a huge load of bull$hite. Best of luck.

My 2009 Challenger R/T had the timing chain tensioner replaced back in like 2011 or so. And now the car has 263,000 issue free miles on it. It's an auto as well.

My wife's 2009 had the timing chain recall, no issues before or after having it done. Her car only has 36k miles on it. My 2010 is a six speed so it doesn't have the timing chain issue.
